Advantages: Cute, jiggly bear by Roman Dirge

Disadvantages: Not for kids . . . not to everyone's liking .

Because he is wonderful; my splendid fiancé treated me to a new Roman Dirge collectable - "Floaty Bear". He arrived in the post and I got very excited about it.

If you haven't heard of Roman Dirge he is a very talented Cartoonist. He has his own comic called Lenore and has worked for Nickelodeon on the popular Invader Zim cartoons. He hangs around with an amazingly cool crowd and has a really pretty wife/girlfriend, (I'm not sure if they are married or not), check him out at www.taxidermied.com and also at www.taxidermied.livejournal.com. You can buy his stuff at www.spookyland.com.

Now onto my bear!

The packaging is yet another wonder of the collectables world. Roman Dirge, (or someone on his "team"), must really understand and care about collectors as this is packaging you can open without hurting. The main packaging is a reasonably large clear plastic box. It has been printed round the bottom and the whole of the back and has a cute little cartoon picture of Roman Dirge on the top.

There are lots of cool things written all over these printed panels such as a disclaimer form "common sense bunny" and "He jiggles! You know, just like real bears". The box, (being a veritable wealth of information), tells us that Floaty Bear is not suitable for people under three years of age, they will after all try to eat him and he is not easily digested, and that he was sculpted by Nathan Cabrera, (www.sixspace.com).

The bear is around 6" tall but with the stand he is nearly 10". The stand is clear plastic so that it appears that the bear is floating. The stand simply fits into a recess on the back of the bear and it is quite sturdy. On the base of the stand it says, "Beware the Floaty Bear Thing!!!" Floaty Bear is moulded from PVC and is a caramel brown colour. It appears that he has been cut in half and is held together by buttons. His legs are teeny tiny and he has only half a mouth. My favourite features are his eyes and ears. His eyes are huge and he looks as though he is about to cry and his ears are small and so cute!

If you pull Floaty Bear's little tail it comes out on a string and he jiggles and vibrates! It makes quite a weird noise but it is really sweet as well.

I don't know how much Tim paid for it but got it from eBay and they do pop up from time to time. You can buy them from www.retrorebels.co.uk/fineromanfloatbear.html for £22.00 + 10% postage and packaging, (£2.20). They will turn up places like Forbidden Planet most good collectables shops from time to time as well so it is worth shopping around.

This is another one of my "toys" that is not at all suitable for children and it defiantly won't be to everyone's tastes but I love it!

Summary: A really cute jiggly bear by Roman Dirge.
