My son got this off his grandad for his first birthday and from seeing the demo in the box loved it. I would say it is geared towards slightly older children as my son dropped it and the mouth stopped moving when he speaks, oops, but it didn't make any difference to the play he has so far got out of it.
Elmo came with a set of plastic drums, a working tambourine and a plastic microphone, all of which can be played with separate to Elmo. He uses each of these in his one man band to sing six songs in total with a press of his foot, and asks in his very life like Elmo voice, for you to play with each of the instruments and mic at different points, leading interactivity with the little one. He seems to know when he doesnt have something and asks 'woukd you give Elmo the driums please?' And there is a little slip on Elmo's foot which is barely noticeable, certainly not from a little persons point of view, but this sits on the foot of the drum and Elmo then begins to play. He does this with the mic and tambourine, although I'm not sure how!
What I love about this toy is that its not only interactive but as a fan of sesame street growing up, this seems entirely life like to me from the fur to the voice and the fact he actually seems to sing into the mic, shakes the tambourines and hits the drums just makes this toy stand out amongst the rest.
The only problem we had, which I can imagine is common with children, is that my son dropped it onto the floor and the mouth, which previously moved as though speaking, stopped working. This seems to have made no difference to my sons enjoyment, and my husbands!
This is currently selling for £16 on amazon and if I were to buy it, I wouldn't hesitate at that price.

~ What is it? ~
This is a very cool Elmo toy, he comes with his own set of drums, a tambourine and a microphone. He sings and dances.
~ Why did I buy it? ~
My hubby wanted to get this last Christmas but I really didn't like the £70+ price tag so I quite bluntly refused, it wasn't until July this year that I saw this advertised on a money saving site for under £20 that I eventually bought it. I have just checked my Amazon account for past orders and I paid £13.50 for it on 8th July which of course was a massive saving compared to the price just a few months earlier. I was then more than happy to buy it and went ahead and did so, I bought it with the intention of putting it away for Christmas but as my sons birthday is in August I ended up giving it to him then instead and I am glad I did as he loved it!
~ What are Elmo's features? ~
Elmo uses his microphone to sing songs, can shake his tambourine and also play his drums. He sings six different songs and also tells you to play his tambourine or to sing.
The little drum set has two coloured patches which show where to place Elmo so he can bang away whilst singing.
~ My Thoughts ~
This came in a really big box, the front of the box was covered in a clear plastic with a hole into which you could insert your hand to test him. It was incredibly well packaged and it seemed a shame to take him out of the box as it looked so good!
Anyway, of course he was removed from the box as my hubby couldn't wait to try him, so he sat on the floor with our little one and set about getting Elmo rockin'!
When you remove Elmo's drums he asks for them, 'Please give Elmo his drums' but if you don't he starts to sing La, La, La, La, La, La, La going high to low as if he is practicing he is very cute indeed.
Placing his drums in front of him will set him off singing, Na, na, na, La. Na, na, na, na Elmo Rocks etc... And he also sings other little tunes too, including It takes Two Baby! It is really sweet and cute. He also lets out a little chuckle and often says 'Lets do it again'.
With his microphone in his hand he lifts it to his mouth and sings in to it.
He is activated by pressing a button on his foot, the button cannot be seen and is well hidden by Elmo's fluffy covering.
This isn't a small toy by any means, it's actually quite big and bulky but I still don't think this justifies the original high price tag. I would have been happy to spend about £40 at the most on this but the low price I paid makes it even better.
I have checked online and can see that it is being sold at Toys'r'us for £39.99.
My son really likes Elmo and this is a fun toy that I would recommend. Elmo knows if he has been given the drums, microphone or tambourine which I find quite fun too.
It is a lovely toy but I am glad I put my foot down Christmas time and bought it at a much lower price later in the year.
Oh and he comes wearing an ultra cool black t-shirt that has a lightening bolt and his name on the front, he really does rock!
The little bits and pieces are all very well made and are constructed of high quality plastics and feel very solid and sturdy.
Thanks for reading :o) x
