My daughter has been a fan of Roary the Racing car from the first time the programme came on. She is as much into cars and racing as she is into girly dolls so when I saw this remote control Roary for sale I thought it would make an ideal Christmas present.

The toy is a good size. It is chunky and very durable having been bashed into my skirting boards, fire place and furniture on numerous occassions. It has remained in tact through all this so obviously a well made toy.

The car speaks several of Roarys catchphrases and the voice used is the same one as on the TV programme. This was a definate plus point as often the toys come with an American voice over which isn't recognisable by your child.

The car itself takes 4 AA batteries and the remote control takes 3AAA. These are not included with the toy and you will need a small screwdriver to put them in.

The remote control part comes in the shape of a steering wheel. It is fairly simple with two buttons. One makes the car go forwards and backwards and the other helps it turn left or right. My daughter picked up the controls quite quickly.

In my opinion there is no downside to this toy for the child. My daugther loved it, it has never broken and she could use the controls.

However, as an adult you can see that the toy has limitations. It has a very small turning circle with the wheels barely moving when you select left to right. The car can not be whizzed round and spun round like you would with a much more advanced toy. However, this is only an observation not a negative as this fact was completely irrelevant to my daughter to whom the toy was aimed.

I paid £20 for this toy so it is a little on the expensive side but it is in line with other such character toys for which you seem to pay a premium for.

In my opinion its a good, robust and fun toy for your toddler.
