My son got this fantastic lapop for Christmas when he was aged 4 and he absolutely loved it. It feels like a real sturdy laptop with a real keyboard and smaller sized mouse.
The only downside to me is the size of the screen. I think it is on the small side but this has never bothered my son.
It has 40 games/activities covering French language, numeracy, literacy and a creative studio programmed in and I think the quality of most are excellent.
I can't stress enough how much my son liked this - it was definately his favorite toy for about 8 months and he played on it every day. He was able to play alot of the activities on his own but equally there are alot where he needed my help.
It's probably got a re-sale value on ebay too as ours has just been kept in the toy box and has had as many knocks an bumps and still in excellent fully working condition.
I'd definately recommend it.
I think this product has to be one of the best presents I could have bought for my eldest son for Christmas, he absolutley loves it and is forever quietly playing and learning on it.
The laptop looks and works just like anyother laptop apart from the fact that it is run on normal batteries, This particular model requires 3 AA size.

In total there are 40 different games and activities for your child toplay and learn. The games are quite basic like asking the child to work out a particular sum or to fill in the missing letter, I have found the melody maker can be a bit more complicated so it may help your child if you sit with them and start off by showing them how it works.
The keyboard is set out like a basic standard computer one and certain keys do have extra features, For example the letter 'q' key features a picture of a saxaphone and the 'i' key has a picture of a flute. These keys are for using in the melody maker game.
There are 8 round buttons at the top of the keyboard, featuring some quick ways to get to the more popular games.
There is a small mouse pad on the bottom section of the keyboard but my son has not used this yet as the laptop does come complete with a full working mouse and mousemat.
The screen area on the laptop has a small screen in the middle, the dimensions are 9cm by 4.5cm. Around the small screen there are lists of all the categories and the game numbers to allow easy access to the one you decide to play.
The on / off switch is also on this part of the laptop and below it are the volume control and the contract control.
When closed the laptop cover is light blue and silver at the bottom.
The laptop is very easy to open with a little slide fastener at the front edge.
The mouse conects as a standard mouse does by a small cable and port in the back. I have personally found that the cable lead could have done with being slightly longer. The mouse is a grey / white colour with a blue press button top.
The dimensions of the laptop are 26cm long by 20cm wide by 3cm depth. It is also very lightweight so easy for any child to carry around.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCES and OPINION
My son totally loves playing with this and is always amazed when he ends the game as the laptop talks to you and tells you your score. He has great delight in telling me whenever he gets 100!
All of the featured games are very eductional and I have found that my son does not realise that what he is doing is learning, to him he is just playing and having great fun.
The laptop is very hardwearing as it has been dropped by my middle son and there is no damage or any noticible marks.
I have found that all of the featured games are actually included in the work which my son is doing at school so it is making a great accompaniment to his school work and he seems to be benefiting from all the reding he is doing from what is being typed on the screen aswell
I feel that there will be many years of fun and enjoyment coming from this wonderful laptop.
PRICE and AVAILABILITY
I purchased this from my local Argos and found it was priced at £24.99 but upon going to the shop I found that it was actually in the sale so I only paid £19.99 which I think is a BARGAIN price for such an educational item.
This item is also available from otehr good toyshops but shop around as I have seen this priced for £30 in some shops.
The vetech product comes in a very handy sized box but I did find that it was practically superglued in with all the ties and tape used to secure it in. The mouse and mousemat come in a seperate area and are very easy to install by just a small lead and connector at the back.
There is a very handy instruction booklet which does explain all of the features and the buttons and gives a very informative run down of how to use this laptop.
This is a must for any small child as it aids development and works alongside school. The age for this particular model is 5 - 7 but I have seen my 3 year old 'having a go'! and I feel that a child who wants to learn no matter what their age will find this very enjoyable.
I also have this review posted on Ciao! under the same name.
