Advantages: hard wearing, teaches basic skills
Disadvantages: can be noisy
A friend of mine bought this computer for my son for his 2nd christmas. The age group was 4 to 6 years and he was only 2 1/2 but we both agreed that it would come in for him and help him later on.
It is a lovely computer mine is yellow and orange and lifts up like a real lap top. It has a part that is shaped as a handle so that the child can find it easy to carry around with them, which I noticed that they do tend to like to carry it around. It even has its own mouse that you can click to make it chose the selection they want to play.
It is a bit of a confusing computer for children because there is so much choice and so much that it can teach them. The basic game on there is it will show 3 shapes and a number or letter in different sequances that they will move the mouse to the number or letter that it is asking them to, when they can recognise the letter or number the keyboard can be used to make this choice.
The games do get harder in stages but they love to have a go at them no matter how hard they are to do. The main feature on this computer is a little dog that will bark excitedly when they get something right and jump into water if they get it wrong so that the child can understand if they are playing it correctly.
There is a volume control on the screen part of the computer to control how loud the dog barks which is good because it can get a bit loud when it is being played alot.
All the keys on the keyboard are clearly marked with the upper and lower case letters and the numbers are clearly marked too.
When the child gets older you have 2 work books that can be completed this is best when they are able to write and have knowledge of basic reading. These books work alongside the computer and are still to be used with us due to my son being 5.
My daugter is only coming 2 and she already loves to play with the computer and hear the dog bark, my son will help her and try to explain what she has got to do.
It is a great learing tool for children from any age and they will grow into it if they are not interested at first it was £17.99 from argos when it was bought and there are now many novelty charactor options available now. Mine takes 3 AA batteries that I have changed on 3 occasions over the past 2 years. I am really glad that my friend bought this for my son and it is coming in for my other children.
Summary: will help children learn or advance their learning
