Advantages: lots of various learning games and activies - highly entertaining

Disadvantages: difficult to use at the reccommended suitable age

My daughter was bought the Vtech first laptop for christmas one year when she was 3.
It came with a workbook and gaurentee. She was excited as mummy has a laptop and now she could be a big girl too but I must admit that at the age of 3 (which is the age level it states suitable from) she did struggle to use it.
There are many different settings and activities such as spelling, word games, number games, pictures, musical and colours to play and they are all aimed at helping the child to learn and improve skills.
For the first few months all my daughter was intrested in was pressing the numbers for differnt musical tunes, she would attempt to use the mouse but found it all abit too tricky.
However now she is 5 I think that it is much more practical and she can choose which games and activies to do herself and it is all becoming much easier for her as well as helping her especially at her 1st year in school the activies are more familiar and make sense. I found the phonics activities particulary helpfull with her learning.
I would reccommend this learning toy for children but I definatly think it is much more beneficial to a child of 4+ and now she is learning to write herself the workbook is also been very handy (I am glad to have put it away when she first got it 2 years ago!)

Summary: worth buying to help with phonics and learning at 1st year in school
