Vtech Tiny Touch Phone
I purchased this phone as part of a three-toy set from Argos costing £19.99p. All there toys were from Vtech and of the set this Tiny Touch Phone has the oldest age group at 12 months plus. You can buy this item separately for under ten pounds from various places such as Argos and Woolworth's.
The phone was on demo setting when we bought it and you were able to hear all the noises fairly loudly but easily. As soon as we got home and undid the packaging from the toy, taking out the tag from the battery compartment that allowed the toy to run in demo mode, we could hardly hear it at all.
To look at the phone, you will see a blue, white and yellow chunky plastic phone like toy with large multicoloured LED light buttons. There is a screen on the top of the phone that shows different pictures when you press the large blue button located just underneath the screen. There are three different pictures to change from and these pictures indicate which mode the Tiny Touch Phone is in. There is a picture of a girl and a boy on a phone that shows the phone is in the telephone talking mode. The other two pictures are one of a little girl with colourful shapes above her head, this indicated the shapes and colour mode and the third picture is of a little boy with numbers above his head, obviously indicating the number mode.
The phone when turned on will sing various songs relating to telephones. When in number mode the phone will ask you to find and press the number 7 button and such like actions. When you press one of the number keys, the lights will flash and the phone will tell you the number of the button that was pressed.
When in telephone mode the phone will say lots of different phrases that can usually be heard on the telephone, such as "talk to you soon, goodbye", "Hello, it's for you" and such like things. The lights of the numbered buttons will continue to flash and random phrases will be said even if the buttons are not being pressed.
The final mode, which is coloured shapes, has pretty much the same principle where the phone will ask you to find certain buttons such as yellow triangle. As the numbers on the keypad are made from different shapes. The top line of 1-3 are circles, the line of 4-6 are triangles, the line of 7-9 are squares and the bottom row is made up of a star, heart and moon shapes. All the different buttons are different colours as there are red, yellow, green and blue colourings.
The play modes seem really great and a lot can be learnt from using this Tiny Touch Phone. What with number, colours, shapes and conversations the learning range is very good.
Although Jack still isn't 12 months like the toy manufacturers suggest, we gave him the Tiny Touch Phone but he has showed little or no interest in the toy from the time we gave it him t the present day. The volume on the phone is so quiet that you can hardly hear it at all. On the packaging it did state that it meet regulations for the toy being used close to the ear but I find this strange as a lot of the time the phone would be held in front so that the buttons, screen and light are visable.
I do keep trying to entice Jack to play with this toy but he may just hold it, press a few buttons and then move on to something he prefers more. I do however think it is a good toy with lots to learn and coming in a a fairly good price. But again another toy that really hasn't caught Jack's imagination.
I would recommend this toy for its price and the many different ways to learn from it but for me and Jack it is just another toy not used in the toy box. He did however like the cardboard box it came in! typical.
All in all I would give this toy a 8/10 and the two minus marks just because it hasn't grabbed Jack's attention much and because of the low volume but apart from that I could see many other children enjoying to play with it.
I hope this has been of some help to you, thanks for reading xxxxx
Summary: a good toy with lots to get out of it
