I dont think my little man has ever watched toy story all the way through, however his big sister has and she is the one that usually convinces me Jamie needs the next Toy Story toy she spots. Jamie already had Buzz Woody and Jessie and his favourite Rex when Ellie decided he 'needed' an alien.
I like to think of myself as a pretty savvy shopper, so true to form I hung on until I dropped on a bargain...
Just before christmas last year Amazon were doing lightening deals, I managed to drop on an Alien, this was not fust any Alien, he had an added bonus...his eyes light up. So to me that meant a built in nightlight. Generally retailing around £30 I managed to buy the Alien for £7.99 including postage. Bargain! I did have a lot of trouble with the delivery company Amazon chose to use but when he finally did arrive I was impressed.
The Alien is over a foot in height, much bigger than I expected, but still a nice size for a two year old to hug. He is lovely bright colours this makes him really attractive to a toddler, standing out from his other toys. He has three eyes around the size of ping pong balls, when you squeeze his hand his eyes light up, this is very easy to do, Jamie manages it pefectly well. The light will stay on for around 15 minutes unless you press his hand again to switch it off. Now if I am totally honest at first this does look pretty scary, especially in a dark room, three eyes can be a bit freaky!!!!
Jamie has got used to seeing the three eyes now and this Alien has become one off his favourite bedtime friends.
I feel this was a fantastic buy, especially at £7.99 however I dont think it is worth the higher RRP, he needs 2 AA batteries these are still the original ones still going strong after 6 months. He also still looks pretty much good as new, considering the hugs he endures I think this is pretty good going.
~~Toy Story Alien Go Glow Pal. ~~
At Christmas time I was searching the internet looking for presents for my children, I had had lots of emails from Amazon about their Lightening Deals so I decided to take a look.
At this time they were offering this Toy Story Alien Go Glow Pal for the very low price of £7.99 and I snapped one up immediately knowing my (then) four year old would love it.
Previous to owning this Alien he took his beloved Leap Frog My Puppy Pal Scout with him everywhere, but upon getting this he now insists on dragging this everywhere too! Scout doesn't get as much use since he has had the Alien but he still cuddles up to him at night.
My son was never bothered about sleeping in the dark but he had a bad dream one night and stated to insist we leave his bedroom door open with the landing light on, my other children however don't like the lights on so we were in a no-win situation!
When I spotted this toy, not only was I first attracted to it due to the price and that it was Toy Story but also because he is a Go Glow Pal and I thought it would be great for my son as a nightlight.
As I already mentioned I placed my order immediately and it was delivered really quickly. For some reason I hadn't expected the Alien to be as big as he is so I was even more impressed with my bargain.
He is quite a big toy, certainly big enough for him to be cuddled in bed. He is very soft and squidgy and pretty much like a stuffed toy. The colours are true to form and are replicated in the exact same way as the Alien's are in the Toy Story movies. He is very cute to look at and will appeal to children with it's lovely bright colours.
The Alien has three large soft plastic eyes which glow a white colour when the hand is pressed, the lights will automatically shut off after 15 minutes which in my case is ample time to get my son settled and well on his way to the land of nod!
The light isn't really bright but it does give off enough light to comfort my son.
My son has an incredible imagination and he tells me that his Alien fights off the baddies in the night and that he karate chops them out of his dreams! He finds the Alien very reasuring and it brings him lots of comfort.
Currently this is retailing on Amazon for £29.99 but apparantly has the real price as £55!!!
It takes 3AA batteries but so far we haven't needed to replace the ones it came with, so I think the batteries will last pretty well.
He is an absolutely cute little character that my son really adores.
Thanks for reading :o) x
I'm a big kid and love the Toy Story alien....he's just too cute! It was a bit of a running joke with my boyfriend and I that he needed to get me a cuddly toy of one after I spent hours trying to win one out of a claw machine on holiday to no avail. Anyway, lo and behold, after months of searching for one, we ran across this little chap by chance when we were in Home Bargains. We got him for a mere £6.99 which is a real bargain considering I found him on Amazon going for £33!
He is quite big for a teddy but not massive. He's about 30cm, I'd reckon and is quite chunky and heavy so isn't really very toddler friendly or 'cuddly' due to that, I'd say. He is soft but has a little package of electronics in his back that you can feel depending where you squeeze him.
The body is made of soft, cotton-like material and has the Pizza Planet logo embroidered on his chest which is nice as some of the other alien teds that are available have the logo printed on his chest but not sewn on. The embroidery just gives the whole teddy a more luxury and well-finished feel. His feet and dark blue belt are made of a different material which is more velvety and his skin is made of a nylon type of material which is quite nice as this makes him feel more like he's got real skin as the contrast between the skin material and body material is so different. The details on his face are great too. Again, not just printed but sewn in with a two-tone mouth and solid eyes. He's a very well made and good quality little chap.
He has a velcro panel on the back so you can access his electronics, presumably to replace the batteries if need be. Obviously, he is meant to be a night light and so you find that if you squeeze his hand you'll feel a little button and this is what turns his light on. The light is in the eyes, so his three eyes light up. In a dark room the colour that the light produces is a slightly eerie green because the light filters through his green skin a little. The light can be turned off by squeezing his hand again or will automatically go off itself after about 15 seconds. This might make him seem useless as a night light but as he's a teddy, a child could easily take him to bed and re-press the button whenever the light went off. Then, of course, when the child finally falls asleep, the light will go off automatically and won't be burning power all night. The button would be very easy to find and operate, even for a very young child.
I think he's really cute and the light off him is enough to light a room. I sometimes turn him on to light the room until I've turned the light off at the light switch and walked to the other side of the room to get into bed and he always gives me enough light for me to walk to bed without stubbing my toes! I would recommend him if you manage to get a bargain but I think the £33 current price on Amazon is far too steep and you'd be better just buying an ordinary night light for that price!
As christmas was fast approaching and with my son being 2 and understanding more I wanted to capture the magic and really treat him so I set about finding a list of things to splurge the cash on and also a list for his Dad to get too. On his Dads list I added the Go Glow Alien as Alfie had seen it 1000 times on adverts and excitedly shouted 'Look Mummy, Story alien!' so I immediately thought it would be a winner. I was very wrong.
Our alien was brought from Argos for £19.99 but it is currently being sold on Amazon for £14.99. The alien is rather large (about half a metre tall) and very wide, making it a bit difficult for a 2 year old to hold easily. The basic idea of the alien is that he is a nighttime pal, as you press his hand and his 3 eyes light up, so a cuddly nightlight if you wish. The adverts show a little boy getting into bed with his cuddly pal and using his lights to fall asleep to.
My first thing I will say is I'm very glad I didn't pay for it!
On Christmas Day Alfie was delighted, giving him big hugs and switching the light on and off, bit of a novelty! However, the aim is for him to be a nightlight/taken to bed.... This has never happened. Mainly because the lights from the eyes are blindingly bright! Even Alfie has declared 'too light Mummy' when I have tried to encourage him to use the alien to fulfill his purpose (I'm a huge Toy Story fan, I hate to think of unplayed with toys being upset! haha!). On the one occasion I did manage to pursuade Alfie to take him to bed he spent the next ten minutes making lots of noise and talking away - the light stays on for 15 mins! In the end I had to take him away and go back to the nightlight we normally use (again a Toy Story one!).
The alien now sits on the bedside table pretty much ignored and barely being played with. I can count on one hand the amounts of times Alfie has played with the alien, instead preferring other toys that he can easily handle and dont give out stupid bright lights.
I can see the idea being a good one, but I would say that the lights could do with being dulled down to actually be used as a nighttime light. The size of the alien is quite big too. Overall, I would say too big and too bright and wouldnt really recommend, especially not to a child as young as 2 (it is marketed to 24 months plus). I have given only 3 out of 5 stars because of this.
My three year old son decided in September that he wanted a go glo light alien for Christmas. I expected it to change many times and though he saw other things he wanted off Santa he remained firm this is the one gift he wanted.
The RRP for this toy is £19.99 but I spotted it on Amazon for £14.99 a couple of months before Christmas. I was hoping that he wouldn't change his mind but as it is the first present he has asked for I didn't want it to be the one toy I couldn't get hold of.
It arrived in a plain cardboard box but revealed the Green Alien from Toy story 3. For those who don't know what he looks like he is predictably green has three eyes and antae on his head, He wears a blue space suit with a planet logo on the top. The Alien is approximately 30cm wide and rather round which means tiny arms may struggle to cuddle him however my son does get his arms around him. The toy is a plush toy while the space suit is a soft velour material this face and hands are more of a more smooth material. The body is well stuffed which means it is that cuddly but does mean he can stand up on his feet.
To get alien to glow you simply press a button within the material on his left hand and his three eyes glow. The Alien light shines through his three eyes and gives out a subtle glow but strong enough that has helped my son find missing objects in his bed. He takes 3AAA batteries which are already included. The battery compartment is secured by a small screw.
When my son opened his gift he was delighted .It was worth every penny to see the excited look on his face. He loved it and managed to give it a big cuddle. Christmas night he was promoted to the top spot in his bed and poor Joe bear became second place in not a dissimilar fashion to woody in toy story became replaced by Buzz Light year. The initial problem I had with this Alien was that the light only lasted about thirty seconds. This meant that when he was settling down to sleep he would keep pressing the hand and every time it switched off he would then disturb himself to relight the Alien. After looking up the toy on Amazon to write a review I discovered that the alien light should stay on for 15 minutes. I have to admit I didn't read the instructions but really didn't think it necessary in a toy that you simply press the hand on and off to operate. I did investigate further and pulled out battery casing in the back of his neck .IT is held in by a piece of Velcro and it was quite difficult to remove as the casing was sewn into the material which while very awkward. I found a switch that was on try me mode but had an on and off switch. Remarkably with the switch of a switch the toy was transformed into the toy we had both been hoping for.
As time has passed his Alien does not hold the prised spot in the bed anymore, Joe Bear has now back in the previous position and during a recent stay in hospital he wanted Joe bear and not his Alien. I have not had to change the batteries but it did spent the first month on try me mode.
I do think that this has worked well as a bedtime companion. It now stands in the corner of his bed and gives a warm glow which for my son who has a fear of the dark is just enough so it doesn't seem to scare away all the monsters and other scary things that loiter in his room. It is not the soft squidgy toy but great company for your little one at night.
This toy is recomended for children three years old and over. This does seem very appropriate for this toy due to cognitve understanding needed to operate this toy.
The Go Glo Alien is currently £17.95 on Amazon with free Super saver delivery.
