Advantages: A years free AA cover when booking 12 hours
Disadvantages: Poor Service, cancelled and late lessons
I have been a pupil of the AA Driving School for almost a year now and I have to say the service is appalling. After 3 instructors and 2 failed tests I am now planning on going with an entirely different firm. My first instructor I had for approx 6 months, not only did I not get very far with him when asked when I should put in for my theory test the only response I seemed to get was I'll let you know when, at times his impatience on me not picking things up made me a nervous wreck and made me doubt my ability to ever learn what he was teaching. He finally left the AA to join BSM. When I got my new instructor he did not know that I had been learning to drive with the AA for approx 6 months until I told him, he had literally just been given my name, address and telephone number. He constantly turned up late by at least 10 minutes sometimes up to 20 saying that he would add the time onto my next lesson of course he very rarely did. As for my theory test if it had not been for me revising online I would have received hardly any help. I also failed 2 tests with this instructor. This instructor also piggybacked his students which meant that the start of your lesson was dropping someone home. And almost finally my third instructor with whom I started in January 2001 (up until this point I was averaging approx 12 hours of lessons a month) whom I finished with today 23 April 2001 cancelled my lessons nearly every other week hence the reason after four months I have had only approx 24 hours of lessons due to cancellations. I have emailed a letter of complaint to the AA's customer service desk in which I have informed them that I have wrote this review of their driving school from the service I have received in Bradford. I can only hope that I have better luck with my next driving school. If I receive a reply to my letter I will let you know by an update. Just to update you all I have recieved a letter from the AA s
aying that they are going to investigate my complaint, if I hear anything else I will let you all know. I am now going to be going with an independant firm who promise if you don't pass the fist time they will pay the fee for the second test, I have checked this out and it doesn't matter that I have already failed TWO tests with the AA I am still entitled to the pass first time or we pay the second test. Will update you and let you know how I get on and if I hear anything else from the AA.

- 18/02/06 I had been taking lessons with an instructor who works for tha AA. I didn't actually contact the AA as the instructor lives local to me so I just phoned his number advertised locally. The ford focus is a nice big car to learn in but I have to say that this particular instructor I would not recommend to anyone. Out of about 40-50 pupils he has only had 5 tests in 13 months and he certainly likes to drag everything out. Now I know it is also down to how well the pupil learns to drive in order for them to take their test and I have to say that I was not the best driver to start with. But this instructor didn't even let me do any manouvres until about month 5 and then it would be about 1 manouvre every 3 weeks. I told him I wanted to take my test as soon as possible last september (2005) and he said to get my theory test out of the way and then he would get things sorted for me. It is now February and this has not happened. He just avoided the issue like he did with sorting my theory test out. I know I can not name him or give his address for legal reasons but if you live in the bloxwich/walsall area then beware because this instructor will drag it out beyond belief if he can. He is from Walsall and he will ROB you if you let him. It's a shame because we got on but I am not going to pay £22 a lesson for the privelage of having a joke and not being taught properly. Sorry for ranting but beware. Any instructor who tells you that you are not a natural driver to begin with is a very silly instructor because none of us are natural drivers to begin with. I will be taking a complaint up but first I feel I have to let the web do it's thing. Thank you. |

- 28/04/01 I'm with the AA Driving School at the moment, and this opinion doesn't give me high hopes. Thanks for being so honest - a great opinion. |
