Advantages: Qualified Instructor, Punctual
Disadvantages: Franchise System, Expensive
I actually have a foreign driver's license but having not driven for a long time, I decided to take up some lessons with the AA Driving School to get a UK driver's license. My first few lessons were all right and I had a patient, helpful and funny instructor to begin with. However after weeks and now months, I have a totally different view of my instructor. My driving test is coming soon and I just dread my lessons. All he can do is drop really sarcastic comments about how unprepared I am and just picks on me constantly, nagging about the most trivial details. When I do my manoeuvres, he will just bark out orders to make me panic. Personally, I think my driving is fine.. who knows, I may be wrong but I certaining do not like his attitude. He insisted I take more lessons before my test and when I said that I couldn't afford so many, he said that he had the right not to let me do the test if he thinks that I am not ready. Hello??? I think the student should decide if he/she wants to sit the test... and let the examiner decide. This can't be right, as the student is at the instructor's disposal and forced to pay for more lessons that required. To me, he just cares about how much money he can get (since instructors are franchise based.) On a brighter note, I did receive advice on how to drive carefully, dos and don'ts, etc. The usual things expected from doing the lessons.

- 11/11/02 I know exactly where your comming from mate, I had the exact same thing with a bsm instructer i had once for an assement lesson, before one of my tests, demining, rude, hes car wasnt mechnically sound the accelrator felt like an lump of iron, dispite this i drove ok wance i had mastered hes iron clutch + super high biting point.
To my supprise he siad "No reason, why you shouldnt pass"
Well i failed .... ?
and my current bsm instructor isnt much different barks out confusing commands at the most inaproperate times ones that could be interpereted alot of ways, making a suitation when there wasnt one before.
This whole learning to driving is a big sham, if any one wants to make a presure group/petition i got the webspace and knowlege, for thoses who are finding what should be a fairly straight forward process of passing the driving test difficult i know alot of parental units who are paying out will be more then happy to see and end to this system of expliotation.

- 13/07/02 Thanks for your messages and opinions. My driving test is next week and I just had a call from my instructor. He wants me to take two 2-hour lessons this weekend, that's Saturday and Sunday! I was put in a spot and had no choice. I am really disappointed with his ways and will not ask anyone to go with AA ever! |
