Newest Review: ... car parking and use of all facilities on the boat. We hired Kingfisher for a week in the summer of 2007. This is a 42 foot boat, which we used as a two berth vessel. Accommodation (very similar to Heron) comprises a fixed double bed, a bathroom, a galley (kitchen) and a saloon (sitting room), where the seating could be converted into further sleeping accommodation for two. There is not ... more  ... much room on narrowboats, but Kingfisher was clean and comfortable. The boat was possibly about ten years old, but it's quite hard to tell.

Arlen Hire boats are to be found in Preston, at the southernmost end of the Lancaster Canal. This is a narrowboat hire company. They currently have four boats on offer, ranging from the 40 foot 2-4 berth Heron to the 54 foot 6-7 berth Falcon. Prices for a week's hire vary seasonally, as is usual. For Heron, the range of prices (2008) runs from £490 to £810 - for Falcon, the range is £650 to £1060. An additional £30 per hire is payable as a damage waiver - a compulsory form of insurance that protect against large claims in case of accidental damage.
