Advantages: punctual, friendly, did the job
Disadvantages: could be expensive
I was a fairly late learner when it came to driving, when I turned 17 I never felt the need to drive, I lived in an area where public transport was adequate. However, when I later moved to a more remote area, I decided to take the plunge, although I initially felt excited about learning, I also felt apprehensive for having left it late for starting to learn. I looked around at available instructors and decided to go for the cheap option, booked several lessons and ended up with someone that yelled at me every day! My confidence was shot. I changed instructors to another local small school, who happily took my money for months, with yet another failed test. On failing two tests, this instructor just said 'oh its nerves, dont worry, you'll pass next time!'. I decided to give it a rest for a bit. When I eventually got up the nerve to go again, I chose BSM, yes they cost more, but I decided I had already spent a fortune so I really just wanted to best chance. I couldnt have had a better experience. After my initial lesson with them, they were friendly, polite, they discussed how many lessons I would need, booked them at a time to suit me. I decided on a lesson every day till my upcoming test in a couple of weeks, the instructor tried to discourage me from booking too many lessons, saying I really didnt need them. (however being a nervous wreck on the test day I didnt agree!). They arrived for every lesson on time, and really were patient with any mistakes I would make. (other instructors lessons had arrived late and ended at someones house so they could drive me back home as part of their lesson, of course making me late back for my babysitters!). My instructor gave me test sheets to help me through the written test, and had to be the most patient person I ever met. I cant recommend them enough, they built up my confidence, made me feel I could get through the test, and I did :-) Give them a go!

- 24/10/01 I think you were just a bit unlucky. I'm going with a less expensive place and the instructor seems to be alright. But then, I haven't taken my test yet so I'll have to wait and see whether he's actually done the job. |
