Advantages: The biggest and best
Disadvantages: Don't do their own colelctions everywhere
I reckon taking all things into consideration, FedEx is the best, I export stuff to the Middle East and have used FedEx for years. However, since I live in a country area, FedEx doesn't collect in its own vans but has a contractor. This used to be Securicor Omega and it is the greatest of mysteries why FedEx chose to change this. If it works, don't fix it. The cut-off time for same-day collection was 2PM and after years of use, the various van drivers and I got to know each other well. Then a series of jolly letters started arriving telling me the "great news" that Business Post was to take over the contract. I was assured nothing would change, even 2 days before BP took over I got a letter re-assuring me of this. In particular, the cut-off time would be the same. WRONG! On the very first day, at about noon, I cheerfully punched in all my information on their auto-booking system (which is brilliant, by the way) only to be told at the end of the process that I had missed the cut-off time. I made voice contact to query this and was told that the cut-off time was now 10:00 AM. WHAT? Yes, 10AM. (It has since changed to 9:50AM!) Good grief, that is tantamount to next day collection adding 24 hours to my transit time. I rarely have anything ready before about 1PM simply because it hasn't arrived on my premises. At this point, I made the grave error of moving to TNT with dire consequnces, see relevant entry. I have now returned to FedEx (with many protests) and my client has agreed to the extra day. But why? Why the change?? No reason was ever given but at least the Omega drivers (who still deliver to me) take some satisfaction in the stories I tell them.
