Independent Garages

I think the services of some garages are nothing but total rip offs. My last visit to a local garage was here in Manchester were the service was terrible at not one but three local garages! Garages are not the best place to come to get your car sorted out if you know a friend tell him to do it. This is because any small problem they see with your car they will turn it into a major one and charge you more money. Took my car to the garage once to get my CD player sorted out instead what happened was they said my car was faulty. Oakcroft Garage, Chessington, Surrey - AVOID !!

Stay away - I had a replacement gearbox and clutch fitted to my Golf at a cost of £1064. 15 months and only 11,000 miles later the gearbox failed again, splitting and losing oil all over my driveway. These symptoms being the same as the original fault. I was then forced to shell out another £340 for the gearbox to be repaired as Oakcroft insisted it was a different fault. So according to them I shouldn't expect a £495 recon. gearbox to last more than 11,000. miles They said "effectively it's a secondhand box in a different case"!!!!

The Carlton Rd Garage in Nottingham is now a garage that I trust to mend my car and give me honest advice. As a woman who knows nothing about cars and garages, over the years I have had to use instinct and bluff my way through the process of getting my car mended. Sometimes I have felt that I have been conned and there was nothing I could do about it - apart from switch to a different garage. I read the review from 2003. Nothing much has changed at Rodgman and Williams. They did a job for me recently. Didn't get the car back when promised. When it was returned, the drivers door panel was loose, there was overspray on the sill and I later noticed the repair on the door could be seen through the paint.
All in all, a rubbish job, will never use them again.
I've given one star as there is no option to give none !
