I was in a minor accident, the damage to my car was on the passanger side the wing mirror, part of both doors and front wing were damaged. They came and picked the car up to take it for repair, they brought the car back when they finished, and there was then damage to the 2 rear lights, which I approached the manager who's exact words were 'we never damaged it'. So WHO DID THEN? He was very arrogant to myself (being a customer) This isnt the end of it but I advise not to go there!

P.Kingham Ltd in Croydon. One of the worst car repair experiences I have ever had in 35 years of motoring. Firstly, my VW Passat was booked for Tuesday and, when I arrived on Tuesday, they said the car was booked for Thursday. I swallowed this only to realise later on that I should have taken this as God's warning not to come to this place again; regrettably, I did. Secondly, the car electrician, who was locating a fault in one of the electrical circuits, trashed into many pieces the whole interior light module, which is located under the cabin roof over the front seats. After that he tried to convince me that the module has fallen apart on its own because of the plastic ageing! The plastic bits were as solid as a brick and all the damage done to it was clearly showing that the person who tried to take the module out did not have a clue how to do this correctly (one just needed to unscrew two screws and the module would fall out). Thirdly, after working on the car for almost half-a-day (I paid £350 for this) the electrician said he still had no clue how long it would take to identify the cause and to complete the repair - perhaps, one more day or perhaps two. Later on the third party electrician, who sorted out all the electric faults in my car within just one hour, said most of the work the P.Kingham Ltd electrician did was not needed at all. This means in this case the P.Kingham Ltd electrician either was completely incompetent or intentionally tried (and succeeded in this) charging me £300+ for the work which was not required. In addition, while the car was 'repaired' (saying "trashed" would be more correct in this case) by P.Kingham Ltd electrician, someone left a deep penny-size dent on the rear left door; the metal was bent in like someone hit the door with a heavy metal object (e.g. a wrench). Obviously, the electrician claimed he had not noticed anything! The garage offered me to sort the dent out "in some time" (i.e. a week or two after) but I opted for taking my car away from that place immediately and to never come back just to make sure these people do not have a chance to trash it any further. Be warned: incompetent receptionist, incompetent electrician thinking customers have no brains while the garage is claiming to be "an approved service centre for VW"! BTW, some of the pre- or post- service cars are routinely kept on neighbouring streets because of the lack of parking at the garage (i.e. could be damaged by strangers). My advice - avoid by all means.

If you have a performance car in Scotland, these are the guys to know.

All the guys at greersport racing are fantastic. They helped me out when my engine blew up. They were very honest, helpful, and i had great communication at all times on the progress of my repair. The bill was less the they quoted, as they got some extra discount on some parts i needed. I cant praise them enough. The only downside of greersport for me is that they are on the wrong side of scotland for me. But they will take you to the local train station Glengarnock, and its only 20 minutes in to Glasgow Central. I believe they have just created a new web page which is www.greersportracing.co.uk So if you have any performance vehicles like Subaru impreza, Mitsubishi Evo, Nissan Skyliners, Coswoths etc then this is the place to take your precious car. They will treat it like there own car, and not thrash it when your back is turned.

Devon Classic Cars..Over £7000 the painting of an already stripped car!! The car was stripped of paint, doors off, windows out, ready for complete painting. An expert assesor said that the quality was very poor. There are foreign objects in every pannel, some areas of thin paint."The only way forward is to strip and respray the car"They charged 137 hours for an 28 hour job. In the assessors opinion.Stay away!!!They took me to court over the bill, I didn't pay, but the court found against me because the "expert witness" opinion was totally disregarded. They still have the engine and are demanding £3400 storage for it's return. At first I was told that the restoration would cost about £10 to £12k, then when the work was started up to £20k.

I hate going to any garage

I think the services of some garages are nothing but total rip offs. My last visit to a local garage was here in Manchester were the service was terrible at not one but three local garages! Garages are not the best place to come to get your car sorted out if you know a friend tell him to do it. This is because any small problem they see with your car they will turn it into a major one and charge you more money. Took my car to the garage once to get my CD player sorted out instead what happened was they said my car was faulty. I had came to get a CD player installed and these workers had already checked my car! It seems like they just want to make money out of little faults with cars. When ever taking my car for a MOT some garages charge more will some will not. The problem is who can you trust? Some of them are reliable whilst some are not. The only issue is if you are not a mechanic you would not know. My uncle was a mechanic and he told me they used to charge people 40 pounds for problems which were only 1 pound charges in the big garage he worked at! So to sum it up garages are basically rip offs!

Oakcroft Garage, Chessington, Surrey - AVOID !!Stay away - I had a replacement gearbox and clutch fitted to my Golf at a cost of £1064. 15 months and only 11,000 miles later the gearbox failed again, splitting and losing oil all over my driveway. These symptoms being the same as the original fault. I was then forced to shell out another £340 for the gearbox to be repaired as Oakcroft insisted it was a different fault. So according to them I shouldn't expect a £495 recon. gearbox to last more than 11,000. miles They said "effectively it's a secondhand box in a different case"!!!!

A great no-nonsense garage that does not con you

The Carlton Rd Garage in Nottingham is now a garage that I trust to mend my car and give me honest advice. As a woman who knows nothing about cars and garages, over the years I have had to use instinct and bluff my way through the process of getting my car mended. Sometimes I have felt that I have been conned and there was nothing I could do about it - apart from switch to a different garage. This happened just recently when a I had a 'Full Service' at a garage I had used previously without problems. The owner/mechanic of the small garage, who had carried this out before no longer touched engines he told me. Instead he had a gangly boy with no communication skills to do the work because he was now too busy with his second-hand car business. Alarm bells rang - but I went ahead with it. This time, there was no call detailing any other concerns, and the option to get anything else fixed at that point. I returned to collect my car to find a list of other problems that were so serious I needed to book it back in straight again and a price that shocked me. As my car is a 'boringly reliable' Nissan Micra' I was unsure about this so I declined the offer and booked it into my MOT garage, Carlton Rd Garage in Nottingham. After the mechanic there had looked at it, he told me that there were some issues but none were hugely serious and could be sorted around MOT time several months later. I chose to have one issue fixed and do as he advised. Carlton Rd Garage is run by a Scottish Mechanic who has strong opinions and who talks to you in a down to earth way. He also listens. If a job is not one he can do easily (such as complicated electrics), he knows someone else who can do it and will give you all the details. Costs ------- The MOT is not one of the cut-price ones that are offered by some Garages. I feel that these are often a hook to get you in the door and then earn lots of money through jobs that are higher costs than at other garages. It is a recommended price. I get a full breakdown and detailed emissions printout - and most of all - this happens without pressure to have unnecessary jobs. The advice I get is never shocking. He always books me in soon after if I need it. Generally, he is relaxed but not overly laid-back. I think one of the major factors of using Carlton Rd Garage is that the owner has many cars wanting to use his services - so he has no pressure to squeeze cash out of mechanically clueless women. The Repairs --------------- These are carried out in the time frame given, the costs stated (sometimes the actual repair has come in slightly less) and with a prompt telephone call as soon as the work is done. To Conclude --------------- If you are a person in the Nottingham area, struggling to find a garage you can trust, I can recommend this one because of all the factors mentioned above. My advice is to book a few days in advance as they are busy.

I read the review from 2003. Nothing much has changed at Rodgman and Williams. They did a job for me recently. Didn't get the car back when promised. When it was returned, the drivers door panel was loose, there was overspray on the sill and I later noticed the repair on the door could be seen through the paint. All in all, a rubbish job, will never use them again.I've given one star as there is no option to give none !

        biggist rip off in motoring

my complaint!!! " AA machanical break down" after buying a landrover freelander and reading the reviews i thought it a good idea to buy a policy from the AA this policy cost me a total of £630.00 for a 24 month period,i was sent a pack called "prestige cover"recently i had trouble with my car starting and had to take it to a garage which is my local machanic,i was instructed by AA that i pay for the diagnostics and once the problem was established the machanic got in touch with AA with his report and to let them know it was one of the injectors which in the booklet called "prestige cover" was covered for repair,to my surprise the machanic called me to let me know that AA did not cover this item, my machanic also informed me i would have been better off keeping my money in my pocket as he does not know of one case where AA have ever paid out at all! so it seems i paid £630.00 out for nothing, the case is now with my solicitor and i have been in touch with bbc/watchdog to see if they want to follow up on this matter so i can expose AA for serious false sales tactics!so for any one reading this who is thinking or been asked to buy such a policy i would advise you give it a very wide birth!!!!!!!

Had my car recently repaired by local car repair garage called RODGMAN & WILLIAMS in PLYMOUTH,DEVON, after being involved in a rather nasty car accident. Have to say that the overall service from this garage was impecable. The staff were courteous, helpful and kind with constant updates on progress on my car, and when my vehicle was returned to me, the finished repairs are excellent. Would definitely use again and recommend to others.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

If you want your car fixed properly at a fair price, I would recommend this garage.

White Heather Garage is a small independent garage located in a small village called Dorney, near Windsor. It is quite an unusual looking garage, in that it is built in tudor style. There is an old tudor house, and a wood-framed workshop, and a little wood framed office/waiting area. Don't be fooled though - the workshop is full of the latest diagnostic equipment and all of the staff are well qualified - you can tell this from all the certificates hanging on the wall in the waiting room. I have been taking my car there since I learned to drive - my parents have always taken their cars their too. My partner now takes his car there, and he is pleased at getting much lower bills than he had been used to. The garage is a Bosch service centre, which apparently means that at least one of the technicians has been trained to a high standard to work on Bosch products, which are fitted on most cars. It also means that they have all the correct diagnostic and testing equipment to find problems on these products. The owner and head technician is called Tom, and his wife Elizabeth does the paperwork. He also has some other technicians who help him with the cars. They are all very friendly, and if you are local they will usually either pick your car up and deliver it back, or give you a lift home and pick you up. I have seen all makes of cars being worked on there - I have a VW, but I have seen everything from old classic cars to new Porsches parked on the forecourt. The garage offers the following services: MOTs Servicing Diagnostic work Air conditioning Mechanical repairs ABS brakes They can also arrange to have bodywork fixed quite cheaply - as I found out when I had a small oops a couple of years ago! Good things about White Heather Garage The prices are much cheaper than main dealers. A while ago I rang round some other garages to see if I was being charged the right price, and some of them were more than twice as expensive! As Tom owns the garage, he really cares about his customers, and if you have a question he will come out and explain the answer in a simple way - even I can understand it! They are honest - I've never been ripped off there, and I haven't spoken to anyone who has. I've always found the work they have done on my car to be fine. The personal service - the staff really go out of their way to help. They will do things like pump up my tyres and check my oil for free - I'm ashamed to admit that I don't know how to do it myself. Bad things about White Heather Garage The waiting area isn't very pretty, and doesn't have a TV and tea/coffee like some garages - just chairs and magazines. But then I suppose you aren't paying for it either. It is a small garage, so you sometimes have to book a bit in advance for long jobs. If it is a small thing they have usually fitted me in at short notice though. I don't think I will ever change garages - I certainly wouldn't take my car to a main dealer, and not just because they are extortionately expensive. I know someone who took her car to Ford, and they forgot to do the wheel nuts up after they had done her brakes. I also know someone who was charged £400 by Volkswagen when all they did was tell her that they didn't know what the problem was and couldn't fix it. I did a day's temping myself at a local Audi garage. I was appalled by the way they spoke about their customers, especially behind their backs. I was working on reception, and my job seemed to be to not pass the customer through to who they wanted to speak to. No thanks - I'll stick with a garage where I can actually speak to the person who does the work!

          • "lost time & money"

Mount Garage in Halifax sold me my £15,000 ?brand new? 04 car yet when I got the log book I was down as the 2nd registered keeper? 3 months of problem after problem with the car AND Mount garage, imagine the shock I had when I learned that the car was actually registered 2 years ago in Spain! and that the full ?PEACE OF MIND? 2 year manufacturer?s warranty, actually only had 10 weeks left. To add injury to insult Mount garage are still denying the vehicle was pre-registered even though I have supplied West Yorkshire Trading Standards with the V5 documentation to prove the facts, it has their name on! They are also saying that the vehicle was not registered in Spain, this is a misunderstanding. The warranty has now run out, I have had this in writing from the manufacturer yet the garage say it has not, they are even pretending to have supplied me with a further warranty, of which I have no knowledge or paperwork of. It?s good we have West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service to advise us on such issues, don?t be afraid to use them, they are in the phone book. It was the car?s main dealer that recommended I tried WYTSS. Since buying the car earlier this year, it has broken down no less than 6 times. OK, so the garage don?t build these cars so, yes, this could happen to anyone, (I suppose) but they did cover up the details of the warranty and omit to inform me or supply me with any details of the free AA assistance I was supposed to have with the car until I went into a rage after being stranded with my 2 children, for the 4th time in 3 months. I learned of the AA cover by chance on one of the occasions that the car broke down, I was stuck/sat in the car, reminiscing about the trusty £3000 car I had owned before and how reliable it was, I decided to ring the garage to tell them I was going to have to return the car for a refund, (which apparently you are well within your rights to do, if the car has had so many faults within the firs t 3 months) the receptionist told me I was supposed to have a card or a pack about AA assistance, I didn?t have either and so she gave me the telephone number for the AA. Upon ringing the AA they told me it was the wrong number for the car and so I had to ring the garage for the right number, when they finally got me it, I rang the number only to be told they had no record of my car?s registration and so could not help me, the AA telephonist went on to ask me if I had a credit card to hand and offered me the opportunity of joining the AA? Aaaagggh! My sister ended up rescuing me with her trusty 10 year old run around and my next door neighbours jump leads. I might add, this 5 hour breakdown (mine and the car?s) was in the forecourt of a petrol station, the car was blocking the only petrol pump working and I was using my mobile phone (dangerous I know) with 2 kids (being quite civil) compared to my red rage, I couldn?t allow anyone to help move it out of the way because the last time it broke down, someone helped push it out of the way and their hands pushed the bodywork in, the ?new? car now has a big dent in the boot (estimated £200 to pop it back out) I couldn?t just leave it there because the area was not so good and the electric windows had also just packed in and they were fully open. ?Apparently the receptionist at Mount forgot to inform the car sales man of my exact description of him but coincidentally within a week I got a welcome pack from the AA saying thank you for your recent enquiry about joining the AA and thank you for your full joining fee etc and so on? Mount garage had done this to cover their tracks, the supposed AA cover was also due to run out very shortly. You could say this is simply just bad after care but it is more than that, they have mis-sold me a vehicle by saying it had all the things I wanted and lied about the actual facts. They have also invalidated the anti corrosion warranty by respraying parts of the car. Within these last 6 months, I have spent days and hours sat in the waiting area of the main dealer whilst they sort out problems with the car, the sales men at this garage say things like, ?you still here? you here again?? I have got better things to do and only wish I didn?t have to spend most of my days off work sat there, week in week out. The car has had to have a new computer fitted as the car had been ?a danger to drive? all the while I have been driving around in it, the brakes could have failed at any time, the main dealer refused to allow it go back out until roadworthy, which took over 1 week. In response to all of my complaints Mount garage said I had saved several thousand pounds on the car?s uk equivalent, which, 1. Is a further contradiction to the salesman?s sales patter ?they are all uk cars? and 2. Confirms they knew it was an import but 3. ?like it makes all of their lies and mis-leading bulls*it ok! What really annoys me further is the fact that it was only £2k cheaper not several thousand but it actually would have been cheaper for me to have bought the same car but genuinely BRAND NEW from the main dealer, with a genuine uk first registration, genuine 3 years AA cover and genuine 3 years peace of mind full warranty. All that has got to be worth more than £2k? MOUNT GARAGE ARE LIARS DON?T GIVE THEM YOUR HARD EARNED CASH OR YOU MAY BE SORRY and by the way they also claim to ?strive on the highest standards in customer care and attention!? DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THESE WOLVES IN ANORAKS

I have had some bad experiences when I have taken my car- a peugeot 206 into garages to be fixed/ serviced in the past.Being ripped off has be my speciality! Though not any more!!! I had been taking my car to the main dealers, because I didnt want to break the warranty! The last time I took it, it was for a service, a run of the mill oil service. Three days later and £200 broker, my car was ready! I thought this couldnt be right, but they know best, it is there job after all, and I was used to paying quite a lot for anything on my car when I had been to see them previously. Well now my warranty was up, would I continue going to this main dealer or do I try my luck with another garage, who deals with all cars. I had heard some stories about terrible cowboy garages, so being a little weary I looked around, asked a lot of people. What I found, was a garage in North London. A modest family owned business. Very helpfull, very friendly- especially as they didnt treat me like an idiot because I was a girl. I had my car finished by the next day, fab! Everything was explained to me, about why the problem had occured, I felt that I could actually ask a question no matter how inexperienced it sounded! They told me how they could fix it, but gave me a choice of what I could do. I got the idea that they didnt actually want to rip me off, that they understood that people are not made of money, therefore customers like myself dont want to throw their money away. I told the mechanic there about my experinces with the main dealer and he couldnt help himself but laugh! Laughing about how devious the main dealers are plus a lot of other garages! He said that the last service I had, the oil service should have cost at maximum £60-70! Not £200! I felt so stupid. Well my car runs like a dream. I have sent so many people to them and have only heard praises about the garage. I just needed to tell the world that there is hope. If you wanna find out about the garage the website is milesaheadmotors.co.uk You will not be disappointed!

I was unforuntate enough to be involved in a car accident in October 2001. phoned my insurance company and they said that i could take it to their approved repair garage (above). well here we are in 2003 and the problem still isn't sorted and the car has now been back six.....yes you read correctly SIX times and they still haven't got it right. tthey can't seem blend the colour properly and when they do they make such a hash of it (i.e ripples and drip marks)that it has to go back again. Also they had to fit a new radiator. which they didn't bleed properly then the engine overheated !!!!!. BE WARNED and choose a different garage !!!!
