Advantages: Packages delivered in good condition.
Disadvantages: Depedning on where you live, you cannot be certain if they WILL actually deliver.
I Ordered a HDTV, via Amazon, to be delivered by City Link. Delivery option chosen was Express Delivery (Guaranteed for next day at before 1pm) and, yeah, the product never materialised.
Going by City Link's tracking system, my package had arrived at their Swansea West Glam. depot, departed from there a few hours later for my local depot (South East London / other side of the country) and then, later on, arrived back at the same depot it departed from. I should have received it, the latest, two hours beforehand.
The obvious thing to do? Call Amazon.
An Amazon representative assured me that she would try to have the situation sorted via a phone call to City Link about the problem. I was refunded for the Express Service failure. She told me City Link would call me on my land line about the problem. As I expected, no such phone call happened.
This resulted in another phone call, to Amazon, the following day. According to Amazon, who got into contact with City Link again, the package could not be found. She informed me that a redelivery would be possible if City Link failed to deliver by the end of the day. No delivery was made
The day after that? I contacted Amazon. I was told that I would have to wait another full day before being entitled to a refund/redelivery should the item not arrive again. No delivery was made. For each phone call I made to Amazon, an effort was made by their customer service department to put a boot up City Link.
Finally, the following day, I was able to have Amazon reorder the HDTV via free Express Delivery (to arrive the following day before 1pm).
And now the climax to this City Link failure....
The redelivered HDTV was lost in EXACTLY the same way as the first! Even City Link's tracking system reported the same sequence of events, for this delivery, as the original.
What completely baffles me is why Amazon chose to use City Link to make the same delivery. At the time, it never occurred to me that they would do that. If I was a member of Amazon's customer service and a customer requested to have an order redelivered via another courier, I'd feel as if my intelligence had been insulted.
So anyway, I'm fed up of waiting; it defeats the purpose of a next day delivery service even if refunded for delivery costs. I intend to get a full refund and buy elsewhere. From now on, if an online retailer does not allow the customer a choice of courier (even at varied prices), I'll not order from their business.
Summary: CITY Link? London and Swansea are two different cities!
