I was FOOLED into changing my break pads and disc by Kwik-Fit £500!!!
What a waste of time, money and frustration – hand on my heart NEVER AGAIN!!
My car is new and only had a few thousand miles, but as soon I heard a slight noise coming from the wheel, I thought of Kwik Fit because of the advertisement around london regarding the PAD guarantee – The armatures that investigated the problem explained that both my Discs and Pads have worn out and needed changing immediately! This through me back and made me think and I eventually agreed to this because they used they’re famous hardline sales phrase “your car is dangerous on the road without the changes”!! The cost was over £500, but as soon as I left the garage there was this squeaking noise from the wheels (again!) which I thought was normal and carried on with my normal duties.
A few days later, the noise got worse so I decided to take this back to the garage and to my bloody surprise the manager said “it’s dust in the pads and discs and all I needed to do was wash it out”, a little fabricated story to give me comfort so I’ll leave quickly. They were very abrupt and impolite to say the least! I complained by online and got the area manager on the phone who didn’t want to hear the problem and said to take it to another kwik Fit who will change the discs and pads and it happened (surprised, me TOO) but, unfortunately happy ever after story didn’t happen with me!
The squeaking noise appeared again after a few months and I complained by phone, nothing happened and then sent another email and no one replied within one week (after service, once you’ve parted with your hard earned money, hey!). I gave up and changed everything with my local garage because I couldn’t bear the noise anymore, which cost another £300 plus !! The AREA manager Trevor called me today, who was not having a good day and started interrogating me for not keeping the pads for him when I changed it, forget the apology and he wasn’t able to help me any further and hang up!
A simple apology and re-check would have gone a Long AWAY!
Kwik FIT – I will pass this onto WATCHDOG to add to their list of many complaints!!
I was due to have a MOT 6/8/15, I had the car booked in and the day before, the front coil spring broke. I contacted Kwik-FIT who told me to "DRIVE" the car to their service center and they would have a look at it. I called the AA who checked the car over and found nothing wrong with the car apart from the the broken coil spring which the packed so they could keep the car wheel arch off the tyre. They then took it to my local center Cleveleys road, Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire.
The next day I get a call from the Assistant Manager at the service center who told me " We have done the MOT before we fixed the coil spring, and as you are aware it has failed, the Constant Velocity (CV) gator is also damaged and the ABS sensor light is showing up on the dash because the switch has been broken". I was amazed, how can they do a MOT knowing the coil spring was broken, they would have had to put it onto a rolling road to test the brakes with a broken coil spring and as such more than likely caused the rest of the damage. Kwik-Fit quoted me £207 to put right all of the problems and get it through the MOT. Then I get a call from the assistant manager to say that "my brake disks and pads need changing which they have only just noticed when taking the wheel off to start the work", this has just "apparently" been through an MOT and there was nothing in that about brakes, he then quotes me just over £200 to sort that problem out, when I told him that I could not afford it, he told me "that the car would fail the MOT", the same MOT which they had done before they started work on the coil spring and which he never mentioned in the first phone call.
I collected the car that evening, I was told that it was done, it had now passed the MOT, even though I had not had the brake disks and pads done, so I asked the assistant manager if it was safe to drive, he said " yeah just drive it until the brakes grind, the disks are damaged anyway". They charged the £207 I was quoted.
Now one last insult was that I paid for my MOT on-line at £30, I was then charged it again in the bill, but was given it back as a "deposit paid" but there was also a message that read £30 deposit paid including a £5 discount, so in fact they only gave me back £25.00. I have just phoned customer service and was told they will "try" and get the area manager to contact me within 3-5 working days. I will NEVER have anything to do with Kwik fit ever again, and my advice to everyone out there is that you should not either.
I took my car into the Peterborough branch as my exhaust had fallen off. They did advise that the correct parts were needed but the cost was 700 pounds!!! I also took to another garage and was quoted 300 pounds. Fortunately a relative worked for a parts company who I believe supplied Kwik-Fit. I got the parts for 176 pounds and my brother fitted it in less than two hours. How can Kwik-Fit warrant these Extortionate prices I don't know??? I'm seriously thinking of going to a consumer watchdog like Which after reading all the reviews on them?
I took my car into Inverkeithing Kwik-Fit for a full set of tyres and tracking never took any notice of invoice until a mth later as had family problems my father was very ill in hospital and 3 wks later passed away I come across the invoice and looked they put my miles for my car down as 87000 my car at the time only done 40000 now 44000 I am shocked that this has happened I have written to head office no reply 2 wks later no reply email the 6 days ago saying they are looking into it and still not heard anything no reply back to email lastnight seeing what's taking so long. It may not be alot but if I sell my car I can be done for clocking it... From the last set of tyres I have done over 60000 miles car is only 4 years old and a motor mobility car so isn't the best customer service won't be useing them again only used them as needed new tyres and couldn't look around
Kwik Fit experiences:
(1) Car had full service at Kwik Fit. Next day would not start called out recovery service.
Diagnosis--- Head gasket gone. Coincidence????? (Penarth Rd. Carmarthen branch)
(2) Brake warning light came on . Kwik fit diagnosis, discs,pads etc etc . Cost approx £280
Result---- Brake warning light still on. Sensor fault!! Was that the problem in the first place???
I will never know. (Stoke-on trent Marsh St. branch)
(3) I'm a fool for going back but on 17th Feb 14 the engine warning light came on. Seeing that I was close to a Kwik Fit garage I asked for help. Result-- Changed plugs,leads and two other items, total cost £320.50
Result--- Car exactly the same. They could not do any more to fix it!!. They gave me a discount of £80 because they could not fix it. However I had to pay £240.50 for parts that were obviously not needed.
I then drove the car for a couple of miles and noticed the temp gauge rising. I stopped and called roadside assistance. Diagnosis-- Head gasket gone. Are the Kwik Fit people so poor that they could not diagnose the problem?? (Penarth Rd Carmarthen branch)
Well that's enough of Kwik Fit for me and I don't think for one minute that they will change their "rip off"
policies. So if everyone else who is ripped off complains and warns as many other motorists as posible they might change their ways, or will they?? All motorists beware!!!!!!!
I can't believe it took me so long to realise what a poor company it is.
I did an MOT in Chichester garage last year. Mechanic found burned number plate bulbs and too loose handbrake. I'm sure the lights worked properly before I entered the garage, and I had to adjust the handbrake when I came back home because it was very tight (this year didn't have any problem with it).
Another issue: the website says:
"By arranging and paying for an MOT online, you will pay only £30.00 - a saving of over 45% on the statutory MOT test fee." It logically means that the MOT normally costs £55 so why the mechanic took off only £30 of the total price of £119? Logically he supposed to take off the full price of MOT to have a discount when I booked it online!
My colleagues and friend have the same experiences: Kwik Fit in Chichester always "finds" something to repair or change to get some extra cash...
Have had my vehicle serviced by them over the last 2 years, on a recent MOT test got an advisory that the nearside and offside front lower suspension arm rubber rear bush had deteriorated but not resulting excessive movement. Was quoted a price but was advised by a relation to just buy the parts (better ones) and my relation would fit them, this was done recently. After removing the wheel discovered that one of the studs on the hub assembly was shorter than the other 4 studs and the start of the stud tread was damaged and also a different wheel nut.
Went to the branch who has done the servicing and tyre replacement to lodge a compliant, the branch Manager agreed that the stud was damaged and could see that it was there brand of tyres fitted.
He agreed to replace the hub assembly FOC and the damage to the stud was done when the wheels was being refitted with an air gun tool, I have noticed that the mechanics (technicians) Do not use air guns to remove and refit the wheels any more.
I will not be using them again for MOT or Servicing.
I took my Corsa into Kwik Fit on Friday, October, 25th, Titwood Road, Glasgow branch. It failed on two back tyres on sidewall damage and it also failed on a sleeve cover for a steering component. I then took it to three smaller MOT garages and they all said the same thing insofar as they would not have failed it on the tyres as they looked to be in good order however they did agree that the sleeve cover needed replacing. Kwik Fit quoted £435 for the work but I got the work done for £95 from one of the three smaller garages and they did the work so quickly that I was able to take it back to Kwik Fit the next day, which was excellent as the test was done initially on a Friday afternoon at 3pm! My relative had a problem with another Glasgow branch a few years ago when, after getting an oil change, she drove 2 miles and noticed her oil light coming on. She opened the bonnet to find oil spurting all over the engine and the dipstick reading was showing empty. By a sheer stroke of luck the RAC said that she had managed to 'just' save the engine by stopping the car as soon as the oil light came on. The RAC said that the oil filter had not been properly secured on completion of the oil change, this being the problem. The RAC also went onto say that securing of an oil filter is one of the first and most elementary basics that a first year mechanic learns and should never happen. You have been warned. I will never be back to Kwik Fit. The cheap MOT test fee is only to get you in the door. The only reason I am giving one star is because there is no option for 0 stars.
Spent a fortune having total new exhaust, catalytic converter etc. 12 months ago. Engine management light on - after trying to sort out the reason for this - local mechanic discovered that when Kwik-Fit had fitted Lambda Sensor they had totally CROSS THREADED it - so the sensor had worked loose - which is why my engine management light was on. Well done Kwik-Fit you're bloody useless! And I haven't got a leg to stand on regarding guarantee because I used another mechanic - not Kwik-Fit to change the Lambda sensor! I won't be going anywhere near Kwik-Fit again. Nor should you! Use daft young kids - that's what it is. You never see the same spotty face twice!
I took my car to Kwick Fitt for MOT, was working perfectly fine. Midday I got a call from the manager with the list of expensive problems, i asked him to slow down and explain slowly and in more detail as i didn't understand a word he said, he repeated the exact same thing in a hurry and make it sound like life & death and told me my car would not pass it's MOT without all these expensive repairs. I decided to take my car to a local garage and guess what i got a MOT certificate. Kwik fitt prices on their website don't refelect their charges, they always try to make up faults so they can make up for the low charges they advertise.

she went to fetch the car and called me in distress after being told the car was unroadworthy and need authorisation for the work to be done

i heard him scare mongering that he cant be responsible for her safety in the car and had to sign a disclaimer.
we took it to a local garage who reviewed the work and recommend nothing needs doing except getting the tracking done because his equipment was being repaired and could not check it
we went to a different garage and paid £20 for the tracking. he come back and said why did you bring it in because your tracking is spot on and which point we give him the kwik fit report and he also did a check and advised no work needed doing.
we reported it to kwik fit and was told they stand by their workmanship and all work needed doing.
trading standard took a statement and advised that they would be send a test vehicle in to do a spot check because of the amount of complaints they were receiving
the car went to Germany and back and passed its next mot without any tyres needed changing

I took my Vauxhall 1.7 Astra diesel into Blackpool Kwik Fits outlet for 4 new tyres ,replacement discs & pads,plus new shokkas(this is what their mechanic calls shock absorbers) as the mechanic said mine were knackered which seemed to me strange as a qualified mechanic relative of mine who`s emigrated to New Zealand had only just replaced them about 2000 miles back,so any way the job was done (total cost a whopping £1,342) ,here`s the cruncher on the way back to Poulton I had to pull up pretty sharpish to avoid a bus , it is amazing how I am still alive,the brakes just seemed to fade away and die as I had to nearly stand up onto the pedal with the greatest force I could muster to avoid a major shunt into the back of it ,also there was a screeching like vibrational grinding sound coming from the front near to the wheel bearings I think as I applied the brakes really, really hard on down, my heart was in my mouth all the way back home,also the car was tending to wallow on every bend as though you was floating about in a rubber dinghy and it was like sliding on the shallowest of bends in the road,now get this!,when I eventually did get back home I thought I had better check the so called new tyres,guess what ,yes you`ve got it only 1mm of tread left,my first thought was oh no I must have picked the car up by some mistake before it has been repaired so I rung back & asked for the manager,the guy on the phone said why do you want to speak to the manager your car has definitely been properly serviced & repaired to a high standard so go away because I think you are making this ludicrous story up trying to get the good name of our prestigious company into the bad books ,so bugger off the deal has been done& stop daydreaming,that car is perfect,the next thing on the phone was just the dialling tone so this whole nightmare of a situation is now in the hands of my solicitor,all I can say is I am now having to use a friends 125cc Honda to commute to work on,while I await for the court case ! ,what a bloody mess they have left me in!
I visited kwik-fit Ashford (kent) to get my aircon recharged,when I collected my car I was told the aircon was fine and working,I paid the charge and left.I found their was was something odd about the gear change,when I arrived home I phoned kwik-fit to report the problem.I was told he had a problem findingreverse and had to push my car out.I asked why he hadn't told me about this when I collected the car,he said he thought it was a problem I new about.I called them again he said it must have happenedon my way home.I have e-mailed kwik-fit six time and have had no reply.looks like I'm going to have to take civil action.I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. The bill to put my car right at the Renault Dealer was£416.00 so I'm going to give up getting cost back from Kwik-fit.
Following the move of our local Suzuki garage, the wife has had her 4x4 serviced at Kwik-Fit for the last 3 years.
On the last service had 4 new tyres fitted and was told both front and rear tracking/camber was out and needed adjustment.
Now my wife only drives localy and has only done just under 3500 miles since last service. Took it in this morning, for new front discs, pads and major 50,00 service, only to be told front and rear camber and tracking beyond limits.
Now how come this needs doing again? its a rip off, I certainly dont have the equipment to measure these angles and perameters, but as far as I can see no scuffing of the inside or outside of the tyres is going on.
Easy money, as the majority of us do not have the equuipment to check this.
I wont be going back, but as i note that their staff and manager has changed yet again, its no wonder.

I asked my son to take the car into Kwik Fit Redhill branch to have a look at rattling coming from the rear axle. They speculated it was the "arms" needing replacing which would cost about £280. So I agreed and about 2 hours later they rang me again to say it was not the arms but the spring on the rear passenger side wheel. It is better to have them both changed they said as they are both old. This is a Mondeo 1.8 (2001) Diesel hatchback. So I agreed to that and asked how much it would be to replace the springs. The price quoted on the phone (all in) was £156 for two rear coil springs. I agreed and three hours later they rang me to say the car was ready.
So I get down there and the first thing they did was show me the two old springs they changed and some other plastic donut looking things which was later explained to be the upper mounts. I thought nothing of it and waited patiently for my bill to be printed. So that'll be £424.75 please. You can imagine my horror when expecting to pay £156 I am suddenly in for £424. I asked why. He said it's the upper mounts. I wash charged 250 for two upper mounts. Nothing was said about upper mounts on the phone. Did they even need changing? My guess is probably not.
I came home and decided to investigate. I rang another Kwik Fit branch and asked for a quote for exactly the same thing as reading it off the invoice. I was quoted £124 less. I filled out a complaint form on Kwik Fit website and sent it through. Here I am one week later and no reply.
Kwik Fit are crooks and con artists. There is no other word or description for them. Never take your car anywhere near these clowns. They are inept, unscrupulous and dishonest.
