Shift these tyres! (Kwik Fit)
Member Name: ggreg
Advantages: A great study of the 'greed' culture in the UK Disadvantages: Cold, uncomfortable and possibly a waste of one hour of your life I had a voucher for a 'free' MOT with Kwik Fit due to having insurance through them. I was sceptical about using this company since they have an interest in selling their products and suspected that they would find some problems to fail the car. The 'mechanic' was 'inspecting' the car for nearly an hour - I was watching from the draughty 'customer lounge' - the amount of time spent on inspecting the tyres was rediculous. I also watched as he lifted himself up by holding the rear shock absorbers - obviously looking for a weakness - not trying to break them deliberately .... Suprise - the car failed on an item that was considered 'dangerous' but obviously not dangerous enough to show me before the car was driven onto the forecourt. Suprise - two tyres were below the required depth even though they are only a year old. Suprise - the other two tyres were showing 'side wall damage'. The young lad on reception gave me a quote for four overpriced tyres and an unnecessary repair - I was 'looking at about 400 pounds'. Suprise - I declined the offer and handed him my 'free MOT voucher'. I will be taking the car for an MOT at an independant garage tomorrow. Summary: Use the free MOT voucher - have a laugh - then go to a genuine garage |
