Disadvantages: You end up spending more than you really need to!
My car is just on a first MOT, low mileage and well mantained. With that in mind I thought to find a best deal on the internet. £35 online price with Kwik FIT - WoodChurch Road Wirral (too good to be true) but lo and behold they failed my MOT because they say one tyre was below legal limit of 1.6mm. They advised that the other three was close to illegal limit and need changing costing about £800 at least. If I get a re-test MOT within same day they will ONLY charge me 1/2 price for it else after that it will need full MOT price. (Their tactic seems like to corner you in to buying from them to make money out of you) I went to my dad's local garage to get a new MOT done and they passed it with no probs as the tyre that was supposed to be illegal by Kwik Fit measurement was in fact the best at 5mm tread!. I went back to Kwik fit to complain. Bad service and the manager fobbed me off and said it's nothing to do with him and I should complain to VOSA. He didn't wanna help me to investigate it. I eventually rang their head office and the area manager did a check on the tyres again. They used an equipment to measure the tyre which was a triangle place it at the tip of middle of tyre to see where the centre 3/4 of the tyre and measure right at the edge of pass the three middle grooves as their standard (I spoke to VOSA and they said you are not to used the triangle. Alls needed is the tread measure gauge and a pair of eye's to see any obvious wearing). The MOT inspection manual states that 'Each side of the central band can be de-voided and still meet the pass standard', my car is not even that!.Take about too good to be true offer MOT at £35 but really it cost more in reality that that Special Equipment of theirs (the measuring triangle) would fail 9 out of 10 cars that go there for MOT and be conned in to buying new tyres from them.
Summary: DAYLIGHT ROBBERY
