Advantages: Um...

Disadvantages: They win, you lose.

An item I purchased over the internet was sent via Parcelforce. After contacting the sender a week after the item was posted to complain that I hadn't received it I was informed that the parcel had been signed for. I checked the Parcelforce website using the tracking number and sure enough, a name and signature had been recorded. As I do not know anyone by that name, I made enquiries with my neighbours and nobody claimed to have signed for it. No notice was left through my door indicating where the parcel was left and Parcelforce could not tell me when I contacted them.

I have attempted to claim compensation for the lost parcel however I was informed by Parcelforce that any claims were to be made by the sender with whom the contract applies. As the seller of the item have their money and are reluctant to make a claim on my behalf, I am therefore left without my parcel and out of pocket.

From my experience, it would seem that as long as Parcelforce have a signature for a recorded delivery then they have completed the delivery regardless of who or where they have delivered to. The delivery driver could even forge a name and signature.

Summary: Avoid like the plague.

Most likely the driver couldn't be bothered to drop it off and have you sign for it so they signed it themselves. A smiliar thing used to happen frequently with me and Royal Mail; they used to tick the box saying they couldn't deliver it because it was too big for the letterbox when it was only a CD or DVD. I'd have to find a friend to drive me to the delivery office only to find it would easily fit through my letterbox, just because they couldn't be bothered finding it in the van. Caused me so much trouble.
