I think I must first explain that I am writing this as an employee of Parcelforce, so a not to cloud the matter. The critisicms I have read mainly focus on deliveries made by Parcelforce from mail order companies. From reading most of them, I feel that it is harsh to put the blame for the problems entirely onto Parcelforce, as most of them seem to focus on delivery times. Parcelforce WILL deliver parcels outside normal working times if the mail order company pay for it at the time of posting. You may feel that this is an unreasonable price increase, but given Union pressure for increased pay outisde normal working hours combined with the lack of request for this service by mail order companies (usually due to the unwillingness of mail order companies to negotiate this type of contract) I am sure you will appreciate why this cannot be introduced as a universal service. I must also add that for a fee of only 50 pence any parcel can be delivered to any local Post Office, a service that can be arranged on a free phone number. Although no particular mention of the Parcelforce Standard service has been made in any of the comments, I must presume that many of the other problems encountered were on this service. This service has long been acknowledged as being unsuccesful, both in reliability and cost effectiveness. For this reason, as part of the widely publicised cost cutting, this service is being stopped, so Parcelforce may focus on our far more succesful and respected Express delivery services. I find the comments regarding the customer service received undefenceable. I agree with all that under no circumstances should customers be made to feel less than wholly important; and every effort should be made to resolve any problem encountered. However, I must note that in reply to the comment about claims for compensation going on for 5 months, this is wholly unusuall, and any claim for compensation made against Parcelforce for an in
land service will be resolved within 28 days, unless Parcelforce have not received information that has been requested from the customer. I do hope that I have responded to some points raised satisfactorily, but if not, then please respond as you deem necessary.

- 18/04/02 Nice to see an opinon from the 'other' side of things - helps to balance it out. I don't like the idea of 'for a fee of only 50p' referring to delivering the packages to the Post Office and the freephone number. The only number I have ever seen for Parcelforce is an 0870 etc number, which is NOT free (and is often answered with a recorded message telling you that they don't have time to take your call anyway) and the 50 pence is just ridiculous. The sender has alreadt paid for delivery. Surely collecting and receipting all those 50 pences costs more than is raised from the exercise? |
