I am expecting a parcel from Newcastle to my house in Buckinghamshire. It was sent on a Thursday by Parcel Force standard, the packaged weighed eleven kg, costing £10.10. Parcel Force standard is supposed to arrive in three working days. A week later, on the following Thursday it had still not arrived, so I phoned up the Parcel Force help-line and was told that I needed to speak to my local depot (Luton), they said they would email Luton and Luton would phone me back. About fifteen minutes later Luton phoned telling me that my item would have been sent to my local post office, before being delivered to me. I phoned up my local post office, which informed me that they remembered a really big and heavy parcel coming addressed to my house, the postman and delivered it but nobody was here so he had left a card. Somebody was here all day, and nobody had left a card. He said he didn’t know where the postman had put it, and he had gone home for the day, so he would speak to him on Friday morning, I said speak to him now. Fifteen minutes later he phoned back and said that it had been delivered Tuesday and signed for, the packaged delivered Tuesday was a pair of lightweight sandals, hardly distinctively heavy and large. I phoned Parcel Force help-line back and was told I needed to speak to Luton, they said they would email Luton to tell them to phone me. Luton phoned and told me I needed to speak to the local post office. I phoned the Post Office and it turns out they close at 12.30pm so I left it for the day. The following day I phoned Parcel Force back up and they told me it had been tracked to Leeds, and had arrived their on the previous Friday, they day after it was sent. They said they would email Leeds and tell them to call me right away. Half and hour later Leeds hadn’t called so I phoned Parcel Force back up and was given the Leeds depot number. I phoned Leeds and after finally getti
ng through I was told they would go down and physically search for it. Fifteen minutes later I got a phone call back saying it wasn’t here anymore and had gone to Peterborough, the man at Leeds depot gave me the Peterborough depot number. I phoned the Peterborough number and was told that I had just called the Peterborough depot security gatehouse, and that he didn’t have the depot number so I would have to ring the national help-line. I called the help-line back, and I was told that they would email Peterborough and someone there would call me. Fifteen minutes later Peterborough called to say that it wouldn’t have gone there, it would in fact have gone to Coventry, and was misdirected to Leeds. They said they would email the Parcel Force national help-line and tell them to ring me right away. Half an hour later Parcel Force still hadn’t called me so I phoned them, they told me that it is in fact at Peterborough, and they would email Peterborough to tell them to physically search for it, and they would get back to me within an hour. And hour and a half later Peterborough still hadn’t called so I phoned Parcel Force and they told me that they would phone up Leeds, after waiting on hold for five minutes they said it was might still be at Leeds. I should wait another ten days before phoning back because it might come. I asked him if he actually knew where it was and he said no. I asked him to email the Luton depot to see if they had it. The Luton depot phoned me back fifteen minutes later and said they couldn’t help me unless I had the Shipping number, I said I did have the shipping number and gave it to them. They said that it was currently at Leeds. I said Leeds said it was at Peterborough, they said it would go to Peterborough then to them. I said Peterborough said it would go to Coventry, they said that it wouldn’t since it’s not an Express package. Then they told
me I should speak to the national help-line. I gave up, if it comes it comes, if it doesn’t it doesn’t. Why spend hours over a £25 pound item and a £10 postage fee? Words fail me to describe how incompetent Parcel Force and its employees are. An eleven kg item in a very large box is not easily misplaced, it can’t have fallen behind a machine or anything. Another thing, why do Parcel force charge for insurance? If you go in to a hospital you don’t have to get insured against medical misconduct.

- 04/05/02 Phew! That was a marathon. I strongly advise you to write to the Customer Complaints Department (e-mail me if you need the address) and put it all in writing for them. Please see my op on ParcelFarce and I am pleased to say that 1 week after writing I received a cheque for double the amount of postage paid. |
