Advantages: family cover

Disadvantages: response time, price increases for existing customers

I had previously been a member of Green Flag breakdown but found them terrible so for quite a while now I have stuck with RAC car breakdown cover. One of the main reasons for this is the personal family cover they offer where up to 4 members of your household are covered under the same policy and they are covered in any car they travel in. This gave me and my family peace of mind and the comparable cover at the AA was more expensive.

Luckily I have only had to call out RAC once to take my car after it had been hit by some idiot going through a red light (thankfully no one was hurt but the car could not be driven). It did however take them quite a while at about 2 hours to turn up as it did not seem a priority for them which disappointed me. They seemed courteous on the phone and offered me a courtesy car but at the time I just wanted to get the car off the road so the delay was not helpful. I also lost my no call out bonus as a result of this which is somewhat unfair.

Anyhow renewal time came up and I noticed they had put the price up by quite a bit. So I rang the customer services saying this was not on and that I had been a loyal customer and the call out was through no fault of mine & unavoidable. Well not only did RAC reduce the price a great deal but they also included a further 3 months so now I am getting 15 months cover instead of the usual 12 months - overall a good deal for personal individual family cover.
