Disadvantages: More expensive than most competitors
It all began due to a misunderstanding. My Mother confused high revs of th cars engine with high speed. We entered the flooded waters around the bridge at high speed like one of those log floom rides that we have all seen at fun parks. Water engulfed the car and the engine stalled leaving us stranded in a foot of water. I rolled up my jeans and stepped into 12" of near freezing water. After pushing the car to dry land, with my mother steering and bystanders smirking we called the RAC. The RAC operator quoted a two hour waiting time. Considering the floods we thought this pretty good. Our mobile number was taken down, with the offer to call us five minutes before the RAC vehicles arrival. This seemed like a good idea giving the option to go shopping or maybe for refreshments. The only company that we had was a wet cows,so we chose to remain in the comfort of our dry vehicle. After an hour a knight in 'shining armour' (in fact an 'old Saab' but never-the-less a knight)stopped along side us and offered a jump start. The engine fired into life. We cancelled the RAC and continued our journey by an alternative route. On arriving at our destination I smelt burning oil and opened the bonnet. Oil everywhere ! Once again we called the RAC. Again we were quoted a couple of hour, fine! The RAC man arrived, five minutes after a warning call from tyhe RAC. It was refreshing to see a jolly face. Especailly when the norm is a grumpy, irritable persona in the motor service business. Within twenty minutes we had a list of the damage done. Only about £25- of parts and a little knowledge required. We were very lucky. The car was undrivable though and he booked us a transporter. Again we were given options to suit us ie. would you like the truck as soon as possible or later on. We chose the end of our working day. The transporter arrived about an hour late, but consider the awful weather conditions this was expected. Agai
n a jolly amiable operative met us. An hour later we were deposited at our door. My mother learnt two things that day: 1. Her RAC cover was worthwhile and lived up to the hype in the adverts. 2. Cars operate differently to jet skis!
