RAC
by SheilaS
I received a letter from RAC at renewal, advising that my credit card details had expired. From this I understood that my renewal would not automatically take place and took out a new RAC policy via my car insurers Aviva.
When I returned from a 2 week holiday, 5 weeks after my renewal date, I was greeted with my credit card ... statement. RAC had in fact taken payment at the beginning of my statement period and I was out of the cancellation time period.
I explained that I had found their letter misleading and that I had not left RAC (my preferred supplier until this point), just chosen to combine my breakdown cover and car insurance. I requested that they refund payment as a good will gesture to a loyal customer. After several calls chasing an update I received an answer - NO, it's not our fault you didn't understand our letter!
Thankfully Aviva do understand the benefit of good will to existing customers and agreed to fully refund my payment. I would recommend Aviva, but unfortunately they are linked to RAC who I will NEVER USE AGAIN!
Ps - I'm still awaiting my call back from a RAC customer service manager (not holding my breath!) Read the complete review |

First Call GB Roadside Assistance

I switched from Direct Line (Green Flag) roadside insurance because the Tesco Finest cover was such an amazing deal (and still used Green Flag). No problem. But then, Tesco change their service provider to RAC. BIG problem. My premium went up straight away - OK (?) but then on the two occasions I have rung them for roadside assistance I ... have genuinely had the worst experience you could imagine. Without going into massive detail I would honestly say this is the VERY WORST customer service I have ever had from anywhere, ever. I do NOT recommend this product. I can only guess that the way Tesco keeps the cost so low is to allow the service provider to add so very many loop holes to the policy that you never actually get what you are expecting. It is tricksy, unhelpful and frankly very distressing to deal with these people when you are already in a potentially very distressing situation. Take my advice, pay a bit more and go to Direct Line/Green Flag. Read the complete review |

Green Flag

I was left stranded on the 100s of miles from home on the M25 for 7 hours! I was left sitting outside the car the whole time, I was ill from breathing in traffic fumes. I phoned them back so many times that my phone died, each time they where rude and dismissive, one person even hung up on me. Another told my I was not on the M25 (I ... was).
I had to walk to the SOS phone box and phone the POLICE!!! who then organised my rescue. The person that finally came out to rescue me was rude and spoke to me like i was an idiot, he told me i was stupid for letting the mat slide under the accelerator without even testing if that was the problem. I tested it in-front of him and the car still did not work. He towed my back to his garage and told my i would have to wait 4 hours for his driver to get up and have breakfast before he would tow me home at a cost of £500. The man who drove me home was txting all the way.
No real attempt was made to diagnose the fault, on having the car fixed by my trusted mechanic, i was told it could have been driven home with only 15 mins roadside labour to fix a small problem with the exhaust system.
IMO the positive reviews here have been left by shills who work for Greenflag...
This was a frightening, emotional experience. in the top 10 of my worst ever... and i consider myself a fairly resilient man. From breakdown to getting home took around 20 horrific hours. Read the complete review |
