Advantages: My deliveries turn up pretty quick
Disadvantages: Pretty much everything else
Ok, I will start with their delivery of my mail.
Not good! Long gone are the days when you would stumble out of bed at 8am and your mail would be sat on the doorstep. In the last month or so, I have gone from receiving my mail at around 10 am, to now receiving it at about 1pm. I often find that if I have a parcel that wont fit in the letterbox, that rather than knock on the door, the postman just sticks a card through, which means a trip to the collection depot. Which kind of defeats the object of paying postage fees if I end up collecting it myself!
Ok, so on to the actual Post Office. Now, my town is one place that has been affected by the closages of the smaller branches. We have lost 3 of our smaller branches, with a few in the surrounding villages set to close too. Which leaves us just one branch in the town centre. So, most days, the queues are out of the door.
Postage prices are rapidly increasing, a few months ago I posted a parcel and it cost me 78p to post, last week I posted an exact same parcel to the same place, and it cost me £1.92!!
I hate the fact that when there are long queues, once you have finished what you went to do, the staff then have to ask you if you are interested in home insurance/ cheaper calls/ high speed broadband etc etc! It just makes sense to work through the queues rather than plug your products, which if we want, we will ask ourselves!
So far, I havent had any trouble in the delivery of any post or parcels I have sent, first class post always seems to turn up within a day or two, so at least the delivery times are up to scratch, but its about the only part of the post office that is at the moment!
Summary: Bring back the closed down branches and get through queues!

- 22/10/08 I have had problems lately with the Royal Mail sticking cards through my door saying I had to collect a parcel because the person who sent it has underpaid on the postage - then having to fork out an "admin fee" on top of the extra postage. This has happened with items that I know have been weighed and mailed from a Post Office, so it just seems like a way to make a few extra quid to me. |
