Advantages: erm- The service when they do deliver

Disadvantages: where do i start

The Royal mail has been serving our country as a postal service for over 360 years, and plays a big part in everyones day to day life. But why oh why does nowadays there service lack?? I don't think there not one person i know who hasn't had a bad experience with the royal mail which seems to put more and more people of using them, but being the major postal service in the UK, a lot of us have no choice but to grin and bear it.

I have mixed views regarding the 'royal mail' as i have had some great service, but also a lot of bad service which seems to out weigh the good, i don't want to bore you with every single bad experience I've had with them but i'll tell you a few so you get the jist of why at the moment there not in my good books!

So i'll start with my postman, a very lovely chap he is, when i see him that is, we're lucky if we get any mail delivered during the week, Because we live in a cottage in quite a rural area,( the next house is about a mile or so away) he thinks he can get away with not making the trip down our lane everyday, and thinks it's a genius idea to bring a whole weeks worth of post at the end of the week.

Which is no good to anyone, if your expecting something important, and if he has a parcel for me he won't knock, before he gets out of his van he writes a little red-card out saying ' he's missed me and i must have gone out' and that i have to go and collect from the local post office. After posting it through the door he quickly runs back to his van and speeds off- charming! So i then have to make arrangement to get to the post office which is 6 miles away as i don't drive!!

Having family live quite far away, on birthdays and special occassions, my partners mum and her family often send cards through the post if they can't get up to see us. One time my partners mum sent a cheque through the post with my daughter's card.

The day of her birthday came and my partners mum rang and asked if the card arrived, which it hadn't, she said she sent it 4 days ago first class to make sure it arrived for her birthday- to cut a long story short it turned up a week after her birthday, as royal mail claim it had been 'damaged' during transit, funny how the whole card had been riped open and the cheque was gone????

Luckily my partners mum had written out my daughter's name on it so it could go straight into her bank, but thats not the point, the royal mail should take more care in making sure they don't employ thief's as staff!! This had upset my partners mum, because her first grandchild didn't receive her card on her first birthday from grandma.

One of my friends who only lives about 15 miles away was getting her daughter christened and we couldn't make it, so i brought her a special glass photo frame as a present, i spent ages carefully wrapping it in layers of bubble wrap and tissue, and put a extra box over it, to protect it, to be honest i think the postage was higher because of all the wrapping i'd used to ensure it got there safely. I also put in big black and red writing 'fragile' over the box about 5 times so they would know it was breakable.

But did they handle it with care?/ I don't think so and it ended up at my friends in thousands of little pieces, i guess the staff don't care any pride in handling parcels and treat them how they want chucking hem about.

I have also had parcels returned to me on numerous occasions, and post that doesn't even belong to the address, but miles away with a completely different street name and postcode.

The main point of my rant is that i think Royal mail really need to buck up there idea's, in regards to customer service, millions of people use there service everyday and expect to be treated decently. They have the money to be able to train staff well, and give them real knowledge as how things should be done. I personally think all their there for is to make money out of us and that they don't give a stuff about us- the public.

We trust the royal mail to deliver and get things to us quickly and efficently as that's what we pay for., and for them to treat the majority of us badly is just plain wrong- sort it out royal mail.

As im sure the Queen doesn't get her mail delivered late, or that she doesn't have to make unnecessary trips to the post office because your lazy postmen can't do there jobs right.

Summary: sort your self's out royal mail, and do your job properly

In my previous flat, the postman had a habit of ramming post through the letterbox really roughly, including things that wouldn't really fit. He did it so often our letterbox broke off!

I think we're lucky, because we although we also live in the middle of nowhere our postman is lovely and knows everyone down the lane. Even to the point that when I moved house to a neighbours, when I'd got my first post there he knocked on the door and asked if I did live there as the Cooke's lived 3 doors down!
