Advantages: Good value, quick delivery, numerous delivery options, large UK employer, international delivery

Disadvantages: Less respected and trusted than of times gone by

The Royal Mail is the major player in the postal services sector of who through their connections with the Post Office are able to offer up a variety of postal services and options.
I am someone who has a love of internet shopping and also sell online sometimes meaning that I have regular experiences and interactions from the Royal Mail and have had some good and some bad experiences. The company has a large amount of postal staff employed throughout the country to sort and deliver the posting of millions of letters, packets, parcels and more each and every year and for the main part you do find that they provide the service that they say they offer with the postman in my area friendly and polite and pretty consistent in his delivery times and I have not had issues with any wrong post delivered to me in the last 2 and half years which I consider to be good considering volumes dealt with.
The delivery services on offer from the Royal Mail include first class, second class, recorded delivery, special delivery, air mail, letter, large letter, small packet and more with the company of recent times changing their ways of pricing with the previous method based simply on weight but now being judged on size and weight (as the bigger the item the less space left for other items). I have used most of these and never had any issues other than once when an item I sent did not arrive to the person purchasing it but I simply sent in a claim form and receipt along with sales invoice and the Royal Mail sent me a cheque in the post within 2 weeks which I found excellent service.
The Royal Mail of course does have its down side with large amounts of strikes ongoing, job cuts planned, delayed deliveries, financial difficulties and more issues causing the company to lack that safe and secure feeling you used to have when sending items with them.
Overall the Royal Mail offers up a good service but I do think that more needs to be done to improve its image following the issues of recent years. Good value for money and quick deliveries though do make this something we should be proud of in this country as not many countries have this kind of service available.

Positives:

- Value for money
- Prompt delivery timescales
- Good variety of delivery options
- Helpful and friendly staff (on the whole)
- Quick and responsive to complaint or claim raised
- Large scale UK employer
- International delivery available

Negatives:

- A less reliable or stable company than of recent years has led to less security felt when using their services

Royal Mail is something that is the envy of other countries around the world and sometimes I think we are a bit negative about it. This offers us good value and quick delivery throughout the country and worldwide delivery also an option.

Summary: A good company that is the envy of many

I agree entirely, although they can't become complacent about it.
