Hello, I am writing about the life of being a part time Postman within the Royal Mail.I have been employed with Royal Mail now some four years, and even in this space of time I have seen the standards drop. I read with despair some of the opinions the public have of our service but unfortunately they are not isolated views and unless Royal Mail change their attitude towards the public and their own employees they will go downhill fast. I am part time and have told management numerous times of different complaints from the public but you always get a " I know better " reply instead of a discussion on the problem. I know all Postman are not angels , but generally we are trying our best under a very stressful envoirment and hope that with the upcoming competition that will happen soon from other companies because of The Regulator (sounds like an Arnold Schwarzaniger film) we can all sit down and discuss what we can all do to ensure our future.

Hi John, and welcome to Dooyoo. As an ex-employee of Royal Mail myself, I have seen some of what you're talking about. The Regulator is scaring the bejesus out of the higher and middle management, not to vmention the vast sums of money spent on the new "Consignia" face.

I would be very keen to hear some more and have some personal examples.

What about your union? Don't they do anything to tackle the management?
