Advantages: Free junk mail through your letter boxes, Cost of First Class Stamp
Disadvantages: Post gets put through the wrong letter box, Postmen Grunting at you, Strikes
UPDATE: The Strike is now over thank god and all is well we hope. The Royal Snail Strike. A manager changes shift patterns at a sorting office and all the members of the GCU go on strike what an earth is going on in the Royal Snail. This strike started in a small sorting office called Wakefield (I think) and other sorting offices refused to accept/sort mail from wakefield, another and another sorting office has joined the strike and thus the Royal Snail Strike has got way way out of hand. Well at least I got no junk mail for a few days anyway. No Readers Digest "YOUVE BEEN SELECTED FOR STAGE 3" junk. No "WIN £25K - if u reply and confirm your address to us" Back to the main subject- For a company that claims they can get your mail to you by 9AM every morning in Cites/Big Towns I think there going very downhill. Soon we might even have Bus Companies posting mail through our letter boxes "First Post" or even Richard Branson Might get in on the case with "Virgin Mail". The Royal Snail are claiming that they will be back and running by the end of Friday. (hah yeah right)

- 03/09/02 I would be interested to read your opinion if it were about the Royal Mail but this seems only to be about a bit of industrial action. It doesn't tell me anything about the services offered, just that they can be affected (As can almost any aspect of your life) by official union action. Perhaps you should write about trade unions instead? Oh and sparky is right, you can stop junk mail, I havn't tried it myself but I have stopped junk telephone calls with the Telephone Preference Service and I know there is also a Mailing Preference Service. |

- 26/05/01 About the junk mail thing... if you ring their sales centre on 08457 950950, they will give you an address to write too, so you can stop all the junk mail coming through your door. It takes approximately 3 months to work, but it's worth a try. When I get the details I'll write an opinion up.
P.S. Don't worry about people saying your comment is out of date. The news may say one thing, but at end of play this week, the strike had not been completely resolved, and I work at RM! |

- 25/05/01 Your opinion is now out of date as the strike ended yesterday, as reported on the BBC tea time news. |
