It’s easy to knock businesses down. Especially when they have had a bit of bad press. But as an opinion on dooyoo you write just that, your own opinion, which includes any experience you have had with them and the service you received. So, I’m sure some will disagree but I have received very good service from Royal Mail. Over the past few months there have been the stories about 1st Class Mail taking 5+ Days to arrive, or not arriving at all. Lazy, Thieving Postmen. The company obsessed with junk mail and not personal mail. And all the rest. Some, I’m sure is true. Most, is probably true. But from my experiences, I have never had any major problems. Although, that might have something to do with where I live. Royal Mail have a quota they have been given to pass by PostWatch (or whatever they are called – the postal watchdogs) and I believe it to be 92% of all 1st Class Mail to arrive the next day. I think I read they were only achieving about 88% (it may have been less). There were only 5 postal codes in England that passed the rate, and one was mine (AL – St Albans). I regularly send letters and parcels by post. The parcels I always send through the Post Office and use Recorded Delivery (you can track your item and the postman will get a signature for it at the other end) that costs 65p on top of the postage. I have never had an item lost by post and only a two-day delay on a parcel once and that was at the time of the Anthrax Alert. I did contact them and they were understanding and told me all I needed to know. They also sent me 12 First Class stamps because of the delay although I had not complained or enquired about compensation. Regarding compensation, with Recorded D
;elivery, Royal Mail will only provide compensation up to 100 times the value of POSTAGE of the item. I would not take the risk of sending anything too valuable through this system. Airmail which I have sent and received is prompt and I have had no problems with that either. At work we send and receive parcels quite often. The service we use is normally Special Delivery. There are two types of Special Delivery, one where they guarantee the delivery before 9.00am the next day, the other is before 1.00pm. Price varies by weight but starts at £3.75. With this service, Royal Mail will cover up to a maximum of £2,500 (you pay a little bit more depending on the maximum liability payout you require). You can also use the SameDay service (do I need to explain?) but prepare to pay a lot more. So, how about the good ol’ Postie? Well a shout out to Andrew the Postman who arrives pretty much the same time every morning, come rain or shine who is very reliable and friendly and we always receive all mail we expect. Which, now I’ve discovered Internet Shopping, is bound to increase. Price wise Royal Mail are reasonably priced. Send a letter all the way across the country for 28p? Get a small parcel sent from Glasgow at 4pm and arrive in London less that 12 hours later with proof of delivery and accepted signature for less that £4? Couriers will charge more for that in most cases. But that’s just me. If I open the paper or turn on the news everyone has a bad thing to say about them. I cannot really fault them. They are going through some bad times at the moment (apparently they are losing 5p every time they deliver a letter) but hopefully they can get their act together so they provide a good service to everyone and not jus
t certain areas. 4 Stars from me. Contact ~ www.royalmail.com Thanks for Reading ©tbsgt Capital Letters Courtesy Of: http://www.chuckleweb.co.uk/fixit.php

- 05/09/04 My boyfriend and I have mixed opinions about Royal Mail. One of their posties snapped a 12" vinyl worth £100 by folding it (?!) and shoving it through the letterbox - but to be fair to them, they did refund £28 compensation and my boyfriend had only paid £5 for it. On the whole I'm pretty impressed with them. |
