Advantages: Good professional service. Good value for money
Disadvantages: None so far. They may take longer to attend if it is home call, which is acceptable to me.
I had Home Breakdown cover with Green Flag for a year. I used them twice during a year. Both time it was flat battery. Due to the call-out, my premium went up from £65 to £85 on renewal. So I cancelled the cover with them and started searching for other providers.
Then I came across Tesco cover, which is provided by none other than Green Flag. I purchased the same cover for around £59. As ex customer of Green Flag, I knew that I will get very good service.
I have called them couple of times after that. Whenever I go on holiday for more than a week, I find my car bettery dead as dodo. Their service is very professional and friendly and most of the time they are on time. There were ocassions when they took extra 10-15 minutes then stated in their SMS if car is dead at home address. The customer service is very helpful and they only require car registration number. Which is very good when you don't have all the documents with you and your car is broken in the middle of nowhere. As soon as call is made, you will get an SMS stating the details of the person attending the call. i.e. sub-contractor's service name, expected time, their contact number etc.
Yes, they do use sub-contractors as other well known breakdown services. I don't have complain with that as far as I get the same high level of service I expect from Tesco - Green Flag.
In general, most of the standard breakdown services are good enough. It is just matter of 5-10 minutes extra the worst one takes. As far as money is right, I can wait for 5-10 minutes more.
Summary: Green Flag service is cheaper if you go via Tesco route
