Today (10/3/2009) after a 1 day hire with 1 car 1 I have also experienced their under handed tactics to fleece customers out of additional charges. I was given a dirty van which I made sure was noted as dirty as this would have obscured any obvious marks. When I returned it firstly the inspector made a comment about how bad (balding) the tyres were, he then insisted that he had to check the windscreen thoroughly and proceeded to wash it (I have never seen this done in all of my van hiring days) - to my dismay, he then pointed out the tiniest "chip" that I may or may not be charged for they weren't clear on that - the manager just made a joke of the situation laughing and said "just charge her" and then insisted that I smile!. The thing that struck me was that they all knew exactly where to look for the "chip" - (they all looked in the same place) when really it was so small you would only notice it if the windscreen was clean and it was pointed out to you. I tried to take the matter up with customer services who if you do manage to get them on the phone you have to email anyway. Stay clear of 1car1 especially the Croydon Branch - aggressive and unprofessional. If you are thinking of hiring from them remember the old saying - IF IT LOOKS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE - IT PROBABLY IS! oh and I only gave them 1 star in this rating as you have to chose a star in truth they are due none.
