First Great Western ... Great Western is a company I seem to be travelling with quite a lot these days, and I must say the travel experience with them seems to be improving. The long distance inter city routes seem to be pretty good - they are not too expensive, the trains are fairly comfortable and the service seems to be quite punctual. The only real problem is that during peak times the trains are over capacity and quite a few people have to stand - the only way around this is to book in advance, which I tend to do for cost reasons when going long distances. Hertz Rent-A-Car ... customer sevice and total ripp off. Always make sure you photograph your car before and right after you bring it back. We wanted them at Oslo airport to check the car with us when we returned but where told from a stupidly grinning person that "thats ok no problem" waving us off. Then a month later they accused us of bringing the car back with a tiny scratch and ripped us off 700 pounds- without ANY notice. I was just checking our credit card bill and was wondering where the hell this enormous amount was coming from. After several fruitless mails someone finally told us about a "scratch". Virgin Trains ... s coming up for the party season again so I have recently spent rather a lot of time making travel arrangements, one method of travel I seem to utilise rather alot these days comes in the shape of the West Coast Mainline, between Manchester/Stockport and London Euston, while in a previous life time I was very familiar with the Manchester/Edinburgh section of this same line, this route is operated by Virgin Trains and has been for several years. Thankfully these days the booking process is somewhat easier than it used to be, having to go in to the train station to book tickets I always found a somewhat draining experience as there was invariably a queue of people app...
