Advantages: Food, scenery, crew.

Disadvantages: Weather but that's uncontrollable!

In July my wife and I took our first cruise. Norway was always a destination that we wanted to go to and when we saw in our local paper that it was on offer at half price we jumped in with all four feet.

Arriving at Southampton we boarded the 'Sundream', which turned out to be thirty years old though the only way you could tell was by the makers plate. The ship is being maintained, painted and polished constantly by the crew. The crew, incidentally, are mostly Filipino with a few Indians and they are all superb and friendly.

Sailing north east for a day eventually brought us to the Norwegian coast which was everything we expected. Lots of islands, towering cliffs, waterfalls and snow topped mountains. Visiting a port most days we sailed to the North Cape and passed by at midnight with people on the shore photographing us photographing them. An experience not to be missed.

On board ship you get well fed with breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and midnight buffet. The food was beautifully presented, served well and tasted lovely. The waiters even sung to the passengers occassionally! The midnight buffet was themed with Chinese, Indian and Chocolate being some of them. The Gala buffet was tremendous. No need to starve!

The cabin we had was small but functional but as you are never in it very long it wasn't a problem. The ship had a permanent entertainment staff with guest acts for four evenings per week. We had a comedian and a banjo player the first week. The banjo player was absolutely superb. The second week we had a different comedian and a male singer. There was no problem about occupying your time whilst on board and there is no real need to dress up aboard.

Arriving back in Southampton it was with genuine sadness that we left the ship and crew and I would say to anyone who sees this ship going on a cruise somewhere at a good price jump in like we did. You will not regret it and like us
you will be looking forward to the next trip. Airtours on board a ship - you'd better believe it!
