Advantages: So much to do and see and this ship is more stable than QE2 so less seasickness!
Disadvantages: Can be expensive!
We travelled from New York back to Southampton in April this year on board the QM2 and really enjoyed the trip despite being some of the youngest passengers on board at 20 something! We had travelled the opposite direction as a passenger on the QE2 a few years ago and were keen to see how the much larger QM2 compared.
Overall, the QM2 is far larger and offers far more space even in the basic inside cabins (which we had). The basic inside 'stateroom' as they call it has a King bed and although small was larger than the room we had previosuly beein in on the QM2. The condition of the fixtures and fiittings and the furniture was also a lot better than the QE2.
One of the best things about the QM2 is the Planetarium which is a fantastic show projected onto a ceiling dome screen. You lie back in your chair and look up and watch a film about the creation of the universe and stars/planets etc. and it is really impressive.
There is also an impressive library on board the QM2 which is said to be the largest at sea. You can borrow books for the duration of your crossing at no extra charge.
There is also a Canyon Ranch Spa which is beautiful and offers all sorts of treatments and a hair salon. I had my hair done and was able to look out of the window at the waves the whole time the stylist was busy which was pretty unique!
The food is fantastic also and there is just so much choice available from formal dining to buffet style dining and of course the fabulous Cunard 'Afternoon Tea' served in the ballroom.
We actually got the best deal for the crossing through Cunard directly and only paid $870 per person for the 6 day cruise as we were very last minute (we booked only a month before we sailed!). I would recommend trying this if you do not have to make firm arrangements far in advance.
Overall the QM2 is a beautiful ship and is a lot more modern and also more stable than the QM2 and I would recommed it to anyone!
Summary: The QM2 is great and there are often last minute bargains to be had!
