Advantages: Customer Service was Fabulous
Disadvantages: The weight you put on with all the eating
We have been on 4 Disney Cruises now and the overall experience really is as magical as they say. It appeals to all ages, if you have young children they will have loads of opportunities to meet the characters, if you have older kids who don’t think that is cool they have places to go to avoid all characters if they want to.
The ship is huge and luxurious, it never feels overcrowded. The service is excellent, and there is always something to do. Everyday you are given your own personal navigator that tells you what is happening all over the ship and what times. You can join in as many or as few things as you like
The cabins are spacious and well kitted out. If you are lucky enough to have your own balcony then I don’t think anything can beat watching the sunset from your own private piece of heaven.
You have a steward that looks after your room for whole time you are with them, so they quickly get to know what your pattern is and one of the little luxuries I like is every time you leave the room for a meal your towels have been freshly changed when you get back.
I think all the staff we came across were great, very helpful and friendly. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them. You have the same dining room team each night, you are assigned a table number which you are seated at each night. There are three main restaurants which you rotate through during your cruise always sitting at the same table number in each restaurant and your team rotates with you. So it is nice to see them waving to you on night two to show you where you are supposed to be. The food is lovely and if you can’t decide which dessert to choose then they will just bring you all of them.
Disney customer service shows through the whole experience, from the excursions that have been pre-selected for you to choose from, to the organisation it takes to get you on your way without having felt, well, like you were back on a school trip.
Disney showed many little touches that I didn’t see with the other cruise companies we were docking next to. For example we were at Cayman Islands, the ships can’t dock there but drop anchor in the bay and you are transported ashore and back again on little motor boats. We went in July so it was really hot, when we got back to the piers from our excursion ashore there was a pier that was crowded with people hot and tired standing in the scorching sun waiting for their boats back to their ships, and then there was the Disney team. Disney had set up on our pier a welcome home sign and a covered canopy with benches under it so we could wait in the shade, plus they had a steward there serving us much needed complimentary iced drinks while we waited. I think that probably says it all.
Any tips? Well just:
If you have older children you really should think about the second sitting for the evening meals. You don’t ever get rushed out of the dining room and there is a really lovely period from about 6 pm (first sitting) onwards when you can practically have the pools and hot tubs to yourself.
Pack your costume in your hand luggage, you may not get your bags delivered to your Cabin for several hours after you arrive on the ship but the pools are open and pretty empty until after you sail.
Book your excursions before you go, it saves a bun fight when you first get on the cruise, you can cancel them whilst on the ship and you don’t pay for them before you take them anyway.
If you want Spa treatments they can’t be booked in advance so have somebody go and book your treatments as soon as you get on the ship.
