Advantages: None.

Disadvantages: You are liable for up to £500 of "damage" after returning the car

It's cheap to rent a car alright but watch out for future charges. EasyRentacar deducted £150 from my account a week after I used their service in Barcelona and still I have not got it back.
Myself and a friend rented a Mercedes A Class for 4 days in October last. As someone stated already you have to check the car for damages in the poorly lit car park before you take the car . Well we checked the car quite well and took note of anything substantial. We even thought we were being picky when we mentioned on the supplied form that there were two small scratches on the car and a crack in one of the lights. We did not however notice a miniscule scratch on the bumper and another tiny scratch on the paintwork (EasyRentacar only informed us of these damages when we queried why they took money from my account one week after returning from my holiday) Because of these "damages" (I do not know if they even exit) EasyRentacar took £150 from my account in addition to the £41 for rental and cleaning that we were charged initially. No damage was done to the car while it was in our care but we could not prove this one week after we left Spain for the UK.
When we returned the car to EasyRentacar in Barcelona everything was fine and we thanked the attendant. But a week after we get back to the UK the £150 was taken from my account without me even being informed about it! !
There was no way I could get the money back as ERC had a signed piece of paper (you must do this before renting the car) with my credit card no. on it stating I would pay for any damages incurred.
I contacted BBC's Watchdog about this and they said that because of the number of complaints against EasyRentacar it could be a long time before they would get back to me. I answered all of Watchdog's questions that they asked about Easyrentacar but I have not heard from them since.
I sent several emails to EasyRentacar (their phone number was £1/min) and it took a longtime be
fore I got a reply and this was really unhelpful. The last I heard from them was some generic email asking me to resubmit my complaint. I doubt if I will ever see my money again!!!
What I have done is decided to boycott all Easy companies and let everyone know what a complete rip-off their service is. I believe that a lot of their income is derived from claiming for "damages" like £150 for two tiny scratches (that I have never seen). I know this has happened to plenty of other people and if any of you are reading this please email me. In the meantime I will never use EasyRentacar, EasyEverything or EasyJet. That horrible Easy logo just makes me sick!

I've used their service on many occasions over the last two years. I think this is unfair. I have little or no sympathy with those who don't read the small print before signing something, and besides the damage charges no longer apply. When they did however, it was always possible to have the car checked over and signed off in your presence. In my experience (10 rentals) this has always been done quickly and efficiently usually within 5-10 mins. I can't comment on Barca, but I have never known one of their depots to be poorly lit, (I have used 4 of them). They were very reasonable when I unavoidably brought the car back late on one occaision. All in all it represents a good service. The cost blows away the competition, use reliable quality vehicles, and they are conveniently located. What more could you want?

I've had a bad experince with easyjet for exactly the same reason - late arrival charges. I know other people who had seen a £50 charge on credit card statements after returning the car on time!
I am still complaining to EasyCar since October. I want my money back, But they are not inetrested and I can sse this escalating.
Also you're right about the Barcelona site. It's dark, it's hard to find and we had to go around the block 4 times to work out how to get into the underground site. All this nearly made us late (but this was not the occasion I was charged for 'late arrival').
