Advantages: Great mode of Travel

Disadvantages: Lapse security measures??

I find the EuroStar a highly acceptable mode of travel, but what about the security aspect? The Channel Tunnel has got to be a prime target for a terrorist attack and I can't help thinking back to my last journey on the EuroStar.

It was a Saturday morning at Waterloo, and the check-in area was mobbed. We went through the ticket barrier and joined a queue for the X-ray machines. However, as the congestion was building, a EuroStar employee opened a side gate and waved about 50 of us through. No security checks on us or our baggage. I could have been carrying guns, bombs anything and they would not have a clue. I remember this concerned me slightly at the time, but in the light of the World Trade Centre attack, it just made me recall this incident.

In recent weeks, we have also seen incidents of asylum seekers breaching security at the French end of the tunnel. If they can do it, why not a terrorist.

As has become painfully obvious, no form of travel is 100% safe, but it seems to me that EuroStar have significant improvements to make. Food for thought if you're going to Europe by Train.

Yeah, what a prat you must be spreading all this paranoia. Not evryone is checked in the way you understand it. If they had not waved you through a prat like you would have been the first to moan about the time it is taking and you're going to be late. With prats like you , you can't win really. I used to work on Eurostar and know what I am talking about. I have met so many prats like you. Stay at home and do everyone a favour. I suppose you spend your spare time travelling round on the underground looking for things to report and cause havoc and try to panic the staff. YOU PRAT!!!!!!!!!

ScotGirl - Granted, timing could be better but it is exactly the recent events that made me recall my Eurostar trip. Spreading paranoia is not the intent, asking for caution and appropriate security measures seems especially apt at this time.
