Advantages: Nil
Disadvantages: You have to give your credit card details to hire cannot pay cash
I booked a van for 1 day through Nationwide Hire 4U I was quoted a full payment of £99.99 including, free delivery, free collection and no excess mileage charge. I received the confirmation of charges.
A1 reservations £ 18.09
Nationwide hire 4U Ltd £ 27.13
Europcar £ 54.77
A security deposit will also be charged by Europcar for £250.00.
The van arrived with a 3/4 tank of fuel, It was collected with a 3/4 tank of fuel, Europcar then took £177.86 out of my account and I received an invoice containing delivery charges, collection charges, excess mileage charges. licence charges, and £46.74 fuel charges. I contacted Europcar they said they would look into the fuel charge but my contract was with Nationwide Hire and I would have to talk to them about all the other charges, this I did and I am still waiting. I phoned Europcar 4 days later about the fuel charges, they have no recollection of any phone call I made to them, but would contact my local Europcar centre to query the fuel charge and would call me back I am still waiting. Europcar are accepting bookings from online booking companies knowing they are offering free delivery and collection and no excess mileage charges and then charging the customer for them, when I asked Europcar about this they stated they do not give free delivery and collection and they charge excess milage charges. Is this a rip off, scam and is it illegal, I have also phoned my bank blocking any more charges from Europcar, Trading Standards cannot help as I hired the van for a collection for my business, I advise any one who has experienced this as a private consumer to report this to their local Trading Standards Office, and get it stopped.
Summary: Do not hire on line because it can cost you a lot more than you know

- 01/12/09 ...why did I not find this information BEFORE I booked a moving van from Nationwide Hire 4U????
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - THEY ARE THIEVES AND CROOKS!!
Booked a moving van and when we got it, it was as old as they come, totally battered, but never mind, it drove like it was supposed to. Problems started the day we finished the hire:
1. We had booked the van to be picked up by Nationwide at the end of the hire at 6pm in the evening. They showed up at 11am the day after so we weren't there (had to go to work) when it was picked up.
2. Then they charged us £500 excess because they claimed it had damage on the lift. This was news to us but we couldn't protest because we hadn't been there when it was picked up. The person we spoke to on the phone said it was an easy, simple little job involving no parts, just unbending this lift. It would take one man 1-2 hours we were told and we would get back whatever wasn't used of our deposit.
3. We had paid £60 to have our excess reduced to £250. When the £500 was charged to our card, it took a long time for them to finally accept that they had to repay us the £250. They did, eventually.
4. Then we heard nothing for several weeks, contacted them and were told that we were not getting any of the money refunded because the repair cost £299 plus VAT. I then asked to see a copy of the repair bill and then the emailing back and forth started, they lied about the amount and refused to repay anything but we are yet to see a copy of the repair bill!!
In the end I wrote that if I did not either get my money back or see proof that the repair had cost that much, I would contact Watchdog and report them. This email they did not respond to so I have reported... I will also write this on any forum I can find to warn others!!
DON'T USE NATIONWIDE HIRE 4U LTD - YOU'LL REGRET IT!!!! |

- 01/04/09 I can only backup what has been said here. If you need to hire a car or van go straight to the car hire firms e.g. Europcar NOT this bunch of middle-men cowboys. They will charge you £70 for doing virtually NOTHING !!! What's worse is that they quote figures from the car hire firms when the actual charge is actually double ! |

- 20/03/09 it's not Europcar, it's NationwideHire4U who are the crooks!
Nation wideHire4U (also known as VanHire2U) ask you what vehicle you want, hire it for you from someone else, and then charge you for their 'service' (usually one phonecall to make the booking on your behalf) on top of the actual cost of hiring the vehicle.
Nationwide Hire 4U call themselves 'vehicle hire brokers' but they're actually just grubby little men trying to get inbetween the customer and the vehicle supplier, so that they can charge a commission. They may well have told you that delivery etc. was free without bothering to tell their supplier (Europcar) that that was what they had promised you, and since they've given Europcar your card details, Europcard charge YOU rather than THEM for any extras that weren't discussed.
That's right - they use YOUR card details to pay OTHER companies as well as themselves - in your case they've taken their own 'commission charge', then used your card details to hire the vehicle from Europcar, and also to pay 'A1 Reservations' whoever the hell they are. So thats why you saw the seperate transactions on your account - they're using your card payment details to pay their suppliers seperately, instead of just billing you directly for one amount...
Stay WELL clear of Nationwide Hire 4U, VanHire2u, or any other vehicle hire 'broker'...if you're not paying the company that actually owns the vehicle you're hiring, then there's something fishy going on. |
