Hired a car in Florence at Xmas 2008 from Europcar, in march 2009 noticed a £48 charge on my Card, phoned to request info, got nowhere save for a "we'll look into it but will need my Driver No."which they claim they didn't have".
next day an invoice from the Rome office arrives detailing the 40 + VAT @ 20% total 48 (Euro or £?) stating a violation was committed by this car, giving a time and date (whilst we still had the car) AND with a Driver No.
I phoned Cust Services in UK on 9/4 and was gived a Case ref no. and tiold a resolution would be given within 7 days. Spoke to them again on the 23/4 as hadn't heard to be told the figure was purely the admin cost for Europcar giving the relevant Italian Authority my details and that if I needed confirmation of what offence I had committed I would need to phone Italy! It was hinted that at this time the Authority may chose to send the actual fine out to me even though they haven't done so yet. I'm loathe to spend ages on the phone to Italy, has anyone any experience of such a situation? Seems a good scam as how many people will actually phone Italy to get to the bottom of it?
