I have also been misled by Europcar when signing my rental agreement at Bergerac Airport. I was told that the serenity pack fee was included in the payment I had already made in advance and would not be charged again. My booking had been made through Auto Europe who I have used before and are, I believe, trustworthy. As the rental agreement makes ... Read the complete review

Put simply, Europcar in our experience are to be avoided at all costs. They may well be one of the cheapest providers, with a large network of vehicles, but our experience is that their service is at best poor, and at worst dishonest. If you do rent a car from them, check the exterior AND the interior thoroughly BEFORE you sign the ... Read the complete review

I would advise anyone who is so foolish as to rent from this company to check the vehicle and note EVERY single defect to the bodywork, interior and mechanicals before signing the hire agreement as you will be charged an excessive amount by Europcar for any repairs.
Do not authorise to Europcar a security deposit via your credit card, they will charge your card contrary to what they tell you at the desk or what is stated in their contract terms.
Always insist on a printed final invoice at termination of hire before you leave their depot, do not accept to receive this at a later date from their head office.
Do not initial anything on the hire agreement that you do not understand.
Under no circumstances return the vehicle other than with a full tank of fuel.
Apart from these minor points, happy motoring!

I only rented a car with Europcar once last week in Barcelona, Spain. The booking was for work, and our travel agent had offered us a quote from Avis, Europcar and Hertz. Europcar was the cheaper, however, it must be said that I am a gold member of British Airways and I normally get an upgrade. The quote in this case was 136 Pounds for ... Read the complete review

Europcar Faro. Car had dents in every panel which were recorded on sheet. Was then asked to check tyres and, naturally, checked tread and that fully inflated. On return lady checked tank full and then from 10 feet away 'spotted' the smallest of scuffs / marks on the tyre walls and didn't check anything else on the car - I commend her eyesight ... We recently returned from our holiday in France, where we hired a car from Europcar Bergerac airport. We returned the car in the same condition as hired, with a full tank of petrol. We were therefore very surprised to discover a few days after our return that Europcar had drawn 396 Euros from our account without any communication with ourselves ... Read the complete review

I have been renting cars for many years due to my job requirements when I travel to Europe, but also due to the fact that I take frequent weekend breaks on the continent. Avis is my preferred rental company and Europcar is the second one, and the reason for this is that most of the time Europcar are more expensive than Avis, although ... Read the complete review

Have just found your site and realise there is a big problem with Europcar. I to have been taken advantage of with the serenity insurance, an amount of over 170.00 which was deducted from my account without my knowledge. The staff did not speak my language clearly which is English and did not explain what was happening or what we were signing for. ... Read the complete review

Others on this site have written about the 'serenity pack' and I too fell victim to this. I hired and prepaid for a car through Easyjet (arranged with Europcar) and collected the car at Toulouse. I declined any additional cover, and yet when I returned I was charged £321.83 for this pack. I too was advised to return my vehicle with a ... Read the complete review

My partner and I hired a car with Europcar which was collected from and returned to Bergerac airport. Upon returning to the UK we noticed that we had been charged an extra £179.98! -- a complete surprise to both of us as we had returned the car as we had found it, with a full tank and had checked with the staff at Europcar in Bergerac that ... Be very careful when collecting a car at Bergerac airport (France), from the Europcar desk. It could be that you may have booked your car through an agent but to all intents and purposes it is Europcar. You will be presented with a document to sign and initial in various places. This will depend on your decisions on insurance, drivers, waivers, ... Read the complete review

In May 2009 we hired a car from Europecar at Bergerac Airport. We paid for the car hire and insurance in the UK before departure. Our flight arrived at 1.15pm and we understood that the office was closed between 12 noon and 2pm, so we expected to wait a few minutes. However, after clearing customs we made our way to the office at about 1.50pm ... Read the complete review

Bad from the start - queued for over an hour with 3 counters taking 12-30 minutes per customer. Busy trying to sell insurances, and my agent even told me to return tank empty - just so they can charge for re-fuelling! What a con. It was only from past rental experience that I insisted that I return it full that he backed down. Final straw was to be charged Euro88 for a cheap screw on aerial which I never even noticed was there or not as I did not use the radio at all. I will never use them again!

1 month after hiring a car through you, I have been charged an excess of £141 by Eouropcar for their "serenity pack" which reduces the collision excess. My French is good and I expressly said I did NOT want this excess cover.
Their form is poorly laid out and I was made to initial the form in various places to agree the contract. Unbeknown to me, one of the initials was an agreement by me to take out this excess collision waiver; hence the extra charge.
I now discover from various car hire review sites that this is an ongoing scam which has occurred many times and especially at Bergerac airport.
