Advantages: Cheap tickets sometimes available

First Great Western are one of the poorest service providers in my opinion. It is regularly advertised that cheap tickets are available on many routes, but this is rarely the case.

The trains are not overly comfortable and the carrages are often cramped and overloaded with people and baggage. In true reality the services are often very delayed and in my experience very rarely have staff on board to mann the food shop.

Unlike other companies who do give refunds when delays take place, first great western are very reluctant to do so and it often takes harrassment of their customer service team to gain any sort of recognition. When compensation is offered it is with vouchers to travel on their service again - so taking the assumption that you want to travel with them again!

Therefore in my opinion, first great western have to be one of the poorest train services within the UK, and their customer service is also very poor.
