Advantages: very quick, comfort is good, regular trains

Disadvantages: none

When going on a trip to London last month I needed to get into the city centre of London from the airport. The airport was Gatwick and I had heard of local trains that go through Gatwick but I had also heard of the Gatwick Express. I went on the website to have a look and from the picture the comfort looked good and also it seemed very posh for a train going back and forward through London.

On the day of my trip I got off the plane and purchase my tickets. After 9:30am you can get a day pass which is cheaper, I think it is called a Cheap Day Return. This costs £14.50 for adults and for under 15's it costs £7.25. This is a good price to pay because not only can you use it for the Gatwick Express but also it has unlimited travel on the London Underground.

When getting on mthe train I was impressed by the cleanliness and comfort. There were plenty of seats and it takes a lot of people. So many got on and still no one was standing. There are some seats with tables and in two's some seats face forward and some back. There are newer trains and older ones, I went on both.

A train is on the platform at Gatwick Airport every 15 minutes and it is approximately a 30 minute journey. The train begins slow but as it zooms past the housing areas, it goes to a very fast speed and this takes you right into Victoria Station, which is central with an Underground station nearby.

While on the train there is a trolley with snacks and drinks coming through. They sell the usual, crisps, sweets and I think sandwiches.

The Gatwick Express is a great train, very fast and there are not stops. It is ideal for anyone wanting to get to the city centre quickly.

There is also trains for the Heathrow Express and Stansted Express so if you want to travel to the city centre of London from other airports I would recommend it, I am not sure if prices vary though.

I once had to jump in a taxi and get to Victoria (1990) to get a passport with only 5 hours to my flight. The taxi cost £75 round trip. When we got back to the airport, we found out the Flyer cost £10 and only took 15 minutes. We were gutted but still got to go on holiday as the plane had been delayed! How lucky was I?
