Advantages: Good Call Centre, No Insurance Excess, Online discount

Disadvantages: Don't see the car till you get there

Holiday Autos are the largest car broker around. When you book a holiday at a travel agent you will normally be offered holiday autos. Be aware that while travel agencies tend to get about 10% commission on package holidays, they often get a lot more for ancillaries such as carhire and carparking. This means that haggling is a distinct possibility.
Holiday Autos offer an upgrade called The Max which involves things like pre-registration, a full tank of petrol, free delivery to hotel etc. be aware that these things can often be included free anyway. That will depend on the destination and the car supplier.
Every time I have used holiday autos there have never been any dramas at the airport and a couple of times I got a bigger car than I paid for.
The website is also very good, and offers an online discount booking and special offers like lastminute.com, for weekend specials.
Holiday autos also arrange UK car hire, but I haven't used that yet.

I don't think the disadvantage you have given is a disadvantage! You never see the car until you get there no matter who you book with. :)

They are cheap, but their customer service sucks big time and they don't keep their oft-repeated promise about speedy refunds.

If you're lucky and never have a problem then you'll think they are great value for money. But if things go wrong and you get stranded somewhere without a car because Holiday Autos booking system has screwed up and they've issued you an invalid voucher (it does happen), you'll rue the day you took your business to them.

Good but I don't like the point about haggling with your travel agent about car hire. Yes, we do make 10% commission on most package holidays (some are less than that), due to the commission structure with scheduled carriers, the profit margin in travel is, on average, 8% - much less than supermarkets, clothes shops, restaurants, etc but no one would dream of haggling with them. We rely on such ancilliaries to bolster up the poor returns on other products.
