Advantages: Nice website, Good phone queuing system, Quick to take money but won't match non uk operators
Disadvantages: Won't match CARJET.COM, PRICE, spec of vehicles, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Having booked my holiday some time ago (NOV 2001) to the Canaries, I decided to book a hire car for 3 days whilst abroad. As you do, looking around the sites and trying to understand who gives the best deal for your money. I finally decided upon Holiday autos, all inclusive, 3rd party insurance, refund on the insuance excess if the worst happened and a BEST PRICE POLICY!!. I rang their call centre and was offered a Opel Corsa 3 door with Air con for £58 pounds. I thought not bad at the time. As you do sometimes after booking or buying something you like to make sure you have got the best deal. The fun begins...... However, after a bit of searching I found "carjet.com" and emailed my details accross. I am led to believe they are part of the EASY group of companies. They were able to offer a Opel Corsa 5 DOOR, AIR CON, FULLY INCLUSIVE INSURANCE, £9.65 CHEAPER AND NO EXCESS TO BE PAID OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE , apart from negligence. So I took my findings back to Holiday Autos and after THREE phone calls nearing 45 minutes and one email I eventually was told NO WE CAN'T MATCH THIS because they are NOT a INDEPENDANT UK OPERATOR. THE TRANSLATION I FEEL FOR THIS IS: "We have not got the buying power of a bigger company, so are unable to match their prices and levels of service they can offer". For once, a multi-national company able to offer a better deal than a independent uk car rental operator. So I am left with the option 1) of being £15 out of pocket for cancelling my booking with Holiday Autos and booking with Carjet.com costing £49 OR 2) Keep my booking with H.autos (£58)knowing I could have a better package all round (but costing me £5 more taking into account the cancellation fee from H.Autos.) Coincidentally, something which Carjet don't charge at all!! My closing line i
s this: Try CARJET.COM, IT WAS CHEAPER THAN HOLIDAY AUTOS, A BETTER LEVEL OF SERVICE FOR 3 DAYS IN FUERTEVENTURA and a better car! I am off on my holiday at the end of the August 2002 so I will let you know how I get on with Holiday Autos and the quality of service I receive in the (Hopefully!!) sunny Canaries.

- 29/08/02 Holiday Autos customer service is appalling. I will never book another car rental with them again.
We booked and paid for a car rental in the USA this summer but when we turned up at the rental desk we were told that our Holiday Autos voucher was not accepted at that rental location. We called Holiday Autos, who at first refused to believe this but eventually (after much to-ing and fro-ing) accepted that they'd made a mistake. They told us that they'd refund the costs of our calls and of hiring a car at the counter. Yeah, right. Two months after we got back, I'm still trying to get the refund. They have all the receipts and all the details, but every time I call up I have to explain the whole saga from the beginning to yet another person in customer services. Each time, they assure me that a letter and refund will be sent to me that same day. Each time when I call up two days later, they claim to have no record of agreeing to anything and the person I spoke to previously is "not available". Talk about being given the runaround. It looks like I'm going to have to take them to the small claims court to get any money out of them. |
