As you can imagine it was the steam train era and my pals and I would spend hours watching the trains, playing on the bridges, hanging out at the station and occasionally riding on the ... The title says it all! Basically you re-live the forties....i shall explain! On the 20th/21st of October every year, the railway running from Pickering to Grosmont passing through, Goathland AKA Heatbeat village, Newton-Dale, and Levisham. Is "transformed" back to the 1940s, with sounds of air-raids, singing from the big band ... Read the complete review

Whether you’re a fan of Heartbeat or not the North York Moors Railway is well worth a visit. It runs from Pickering in the south to Grosmont in the north, via Goathland, which is transformed into Aidensfield in order to film Heartbeat. Going back to Kingston-upon-Hull I have to leave Leeds before 10PM, or 9PM from Sheffield. So you can't go anywhere for a ... Read the complete review

Since coming to University 5 years ago, the Young Persons Railcard has to be one of my best value purchases. For £16, the card pays for itself in one trip home for me (London to Wales). The standard return fare is about £40, while, with a rail card, this price comes down to about £25. Available from any rail station, all you need to do is ... Read the complete review

A Young Persons Rail card is one of the best purchases you can make if you are under 25 and use the trains at all. It costs just £16 but gives you a third of all your tickets. When you consider how expensive some of these tickets can be it quickly pays for itself. I regularly travel between Edinburgh and Aberdeen and tickets can cost up to £40, ... Read the complete review
