Advantages: Large luxury ferries, Swimming pool, Nice cabins

Disadvantages: In Peak-Season its expensive

My family are always visiting France, and considering the amount of ferries I have been on, I wasnt really expecting much.

Well how wrong can you be, we went from Portsmouth to Le Havre and we waited in the car queue like trying to guess which ship we were going on - thinking that it would be the smallest. But to our amazement, we drove onto this huge boat that most cruise lines would envy!!
The orginally named 'Pride of Portmsouth' had every concievable luxury on it. We got to our cabin and it was tiny but very modern and with en suite bathroom (which is about the size of a shower cubicle!)

There is a swimming pool (yes a swimming pool!!!!!!!) on the lower deck which we used, along with about 200 other kids!!! Also there are showers, changing areas and a sauna! They even lend you towels to use.

Upstairs, back on the main decks, there are many sitting areas, gift shops and bars. There are about 3 restaurants with one being a self service and the others a bit more upmarket!
There is also 2 cinemas showing new films. At night, one of the bars has a life cabaret and during the day theres a childrens entertainer who does various shows.

The crossing is about 6 and a half hours and if you take the overnight option, you are forced to rent a cabin (if still available) and the swimming pool is also closed.
If you like the cabins, then you can actually upgrade to a better one, I think their more spacious and a mini bar is included. If you have an even larger budget then you can stay in the luxury suite! (theres 1 on board) which boasts TV, double beds, and private balcony!!!

So to sum things up, I would highly recommend this route, you are never bored and the level of service if very high.

Nice review, but it's always a pricey way to cross the channel. Pack some sarnies and go straight to sleep...it will be a very early start the next morning.

It sounds like a great way to start a holiday.
