Public Transport in general

Newest Review: ... each morning. Apart from the constant gridlock that seems to be happening. To listen to me you would think it was all the tramworks that were my major problem but at least I know one day that will be over. I don't know if it is the same everywhere but having spent a few months in Liverpool I didn't notice it as much there. I am of course referring to the FUTURE DJ'S OF BRITAIN. The teenagers that take up the entire back of the bus and insist on playing some smurf style remix as loud as they can!!!!! Why oh why do they do it? You love the song? Great, Fantastic, why the need to share it? These rude teenagers then insist on being loud and n... more

Most of you will have used public transport at some time or another and possibly like me have to use it most days. I generally don't have an issue when using trains etc as that is only rare. My main problem is the day to day issues that come with taking the bus. My local bus service in Edinburgh is apparently one of the best around and up until recently I would have agreed. The recent tram works have caused some major problems mainly with the roadworks creeping up everywhere in the city! The main street in the entire city from which almost all buses go to or from has been closed and this has basically added at least 20 minutes to my journey to work each ...  Read the complete review

In the new year, our local bus service (Travel West Midlands) did their usual price increase - this time making a single ticket jump from £1.50 to £1.70 and a day ticket from £3.30. Given that in many cases petrol prices are set to fall, I cannot see any reason or justification for such high prices when the service that they provide is so dismal. We need to get more people on public transport for the environmental effect they have, but why on earth would people who can (and can afford to) drive choose this option at the moment? I believe that bus companies should not be allowed to automatically raise their prices unless there is also a vast increase in the reliability ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Public Transport in general: Should we use public transport more? (507 words)
by - written on 09/02/09 (Very useful, 29 readings)

I keep reading in the paper and hearing on the radio and television that I should be using public transport more to help the country and to save the environment. So I try to do my bit and if I go anywhere on my own, especially into my local city of Manchester, I tend to use my train. Everytime I do this, I have somehow mysteriously forgotten my previous experiences and I have my rose coloured spectacles well and truly clamped to my head. I forget that the trains by and large are run down and I have lost count of the times I have sat on a ripped seat. From where I sat today on the 10:33 to Manchester Piccadilly, I could see filthy floors, grubby seats and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Are We There Yet? (320 words)

I really fought to use public transport. It took me up until 22 before I even started taking driving lessons, and that was reluctantly. However, as it stood, I simply couldn't rely on public transport any longer. Why is that? Well, as most people do nowadays, I used to live in one town and work in another - only twenty minutes away by car! But there was no direct bus - in fact getting there and back used to involve three buses on a morning, and two buses and a taxi on an evening. Worse than that, because two of the buses were managed by different bus companies I couldn't even get by on a daytripped. I had to buy two returns, taking my daily bus ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Public Transport in general: Expensive and not efficent! (685 words)

In many foreign countries I have visited, public transport is cheap and efficient, so everyone uses it! Here is it expensive and unreliable so many of us don't use! I am quite into the environment and often walk places, for longer journey's I would love to be able to leap on a bus. Where I live we get one bus an hour, but they are often late, up to 15 or 20 mins. My bus stop doesn't have a cover so you get soaked waiting. The 6 mile journey to town costs nearly £4 return, so if hubbie and I go not much change out of a tenner, and massive inconvenience waiting then going all round the mulberry bush to get there! So we drive instead and pay £1 parking. Sometimes ...  Read the complete review
