Advantages: Huh?
Disadvantages: Trains=terrible
Thats the sound that Trains make. No really, they do. >looks for the men in white coats< I'm tired of trains. It's a simple fact. For the past, well, since september shall we say, I have been FORCED to rely upon the really uselessness of trains in general. My boyfriend now lives in Portsmouth, (hopefully not for much longer) and to see him I have to buy trains tickets. That can be the most stressful part of travelling. I wander up to the place where the smug middle aged man sits, watching you approach, and I timidly hold up my young persons card and ask for a return to Fratton station in Portsmouth. Im only going for the weekend. Im at uni, me and my love both are. "Fifty three pounds" it's like having a heartattack hearing those dreaded words. Fifty Three pounds for a return ticket to Portsmouth, NOT EVEN first class, from Hull. These train people must be making an absolute fortune off me! I travelled to portsmouth two times last year, that £100 gone down the sink. I travelled on a single in january as he was driving up to see his family so he'd take me back too, and that cost 35 smackers. Just thinking about how much money we waste on trains, and when we get on, they're run down, dirty and not even desirable enough to make me WANT to sit on the seats that look like they haven't seen a squeedgy, ever. Disgusting. The train journeys down are long, tiresome things. One hour to Doncaster station in an Arriva train that rattles so hard it should fall apart by rights. Then Get off the train with all my heavy baggage and wait for the train to London. It's so cold on the platforms, and I always start to feel sleepy. The trains arrives Late (big surprise there, eh?) and I clamber on, find a seat if it's not TOO crowded. Another two hours and a bit to London. Joyful. At this point it's usually about three in the afternoon. Get off at King's Cross, onto the underground to g
et to Waterloo station. Now, the underground is atest of my mettle. The first time I ever went on the London underground I swear, I nearly fainted. I'm normally pretty good with busy places, but it was a friday afternoon and EVERYONE was there, I swear it, full of foreign people chattering away, and my head started to spin. It was awful. I felt sick. I grabbed a ticket, squeezed onto the full train thingy, and somehow got to waterloo, onto my train and got to portsmouth at five/half five ish. It had taken me six hours to get there. I was shattered, scared from the London Underground, and wanting badly to see Andrew. I spent the night slepeing soundly. Ive done the Underground five times. Im still as stiff scared of it as when I started. Train journeys, are long and boring. The trains are always cramped, the people boring and rude (who run them) and as if that wasn't enough, recently Arriva did a huge strike for pay increases. Thats damn well clever, aint it? Just means that is more money I have to shell out if I want to go and see my boyfriend. Im not a happy person. All in all I think Trains are dreadful, thats just my gripe. My advice is, dont get a train if theres an alternative, because invariably the train will be late, the tea on the trolly lukewarm and a window is always open somewhere to let in a draft, as the world passes by your window, and the train goes "Choo Choo" 'Rith

- 22/02/02 Good op! Travelling from Sheffield to London St Pancras is alright, but Midlan Mainline do have a habit of suddenly cancelling a service - which is a tad annoying!
Cheers, C. |
