First Great Western:
... I spend many, many days travelling up and down the country, I m very familiar with the First Great Western service as I live in the south west. Often it is my beginning train service to get to a main station before continuing my journey north. The First Great Western trains are quite distinctive, being a purple-y blue colour with pink doors and dashes of pink in the logo. They look about fifty years old, and they... NS Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Holland) ... what can I say about the Nederlandse Spoorwegen? (NS) I travel to The Netherlands from the UK fairly often, because I am Dutch, and my family lives there. I use a wheelchair myself, and I find traveling can be rather difficult, but not on the Dutch Railways. The Dutch seem to know exactly how to run an efficient railway system, and they are of the attitude that everyone should be able to access it. If you want to travel with luggage, or children then this is no problem. All of the trains seem to run with clockwork efficiency, and if there are any problems, they will warn you easily, and even give you an alternative route. You can go almost anywhere on the tr... Gatwick Express ... used the Gatwick Express when traveling to Gatwick Airport (funnily enough) for our Honeymoon. As it was a special occasion, we decided to treat ourselves and paid for 1st class which was £24.50 each for a 30 minute train ride! Pretty expensive!! Standard class is cheaper at £16.90 each, but this is still a lot for only half an hour s trip! Trains run every 15 minutes from Victoria to Gatwick and arrive at the South Terminal, which is just a 2 minute monorail ride away from the North Terminal. The train itself was very clean although the carriage did seem quite old with frayed and marked seats. Every seat in 1st class has a table with it, although we did think there ... Young Persons Railcard ... bought my Young Persons Railcard on the advice of my boyfriend, who I had started regularly travelling to go to see. Beforehand, I had just stuck with my student Oyster card, rarely travelling outside of London and when I did, usually by coach. However, to get to where he lives, there is no cheap coach option - so the train it had to be! The fare wasn t cheap either, bearing in mind I was visiting pretty much every weekend, my student loan is only so much, and so saving a third on the rail fare seemed a great idea. Even if it would be a few weeks before I d effectively save my money back. The Young Person s Railcard is available to anyone aged 16-25 or full time studen...
